During the 1990’s UBUS Books & Things, a full service bookstore, Health Foods store, among many other products and services, was located in Hampton, Virginia.

H. Khalif Khalifah and his wife Reda Faard, owners of the retail business were separated by the death of Reda in 1997. Widower Khalifah closed the store in the year 2000 and moved the remaining business 75 miles west to Southampton County, Virginia; on a tract of land that was part of the birth land of Nat Turner.

 Troy Anthony Davis (Oct. 9, 1968 - ? )

What do American decision makers do whenever We the People begin to unite and press for social and economic justice?  They create a diversion.  The Vietnam War diverted attention and momentum from the civil rights movement when African Americans, whites and others joined together at the Poor People's March and other justice initiatives.  Today people are UNITING to protest wars without provocation, mass incarcerat

THE LIFE & LEGACY OF JOEL AUGUSTUS ROGERS: CHRONICLER OF A GLORIOUS AFRICAN

CRITICAL ASSESSMENTS OF JOEL AUGUSTUS ROGERS

Although Joel Augustus Rogers was largely self-trained, some of the most

Greetings Family,

How are you?  I am entering the fourth day of my second trip to Zimbabwe.  My
first trip, in 2000, took me to Bulawayo and surrounding villages, the ruins
of Great Zimababwe and the magnificent (no other word comes close to
describing it) waterfalls of Mosi Oa Tunya ("The smoke that thunders").  This
time I am in the capital of Zimbabwe--Harare.

The occasion of my current visit to Zimbabwe is the Pedagogical Use of the
General History of Africa Project

For as long as I can remember, I have had an intense interest in my paternal grandfather. You know the drill, who he was, what was he about, how was he raised, etc. Fundamentally, the reason was that he had died in 1938, which was approximately twenty years before I was born, and when his oldest child (my father) was ten years old. Although I was consciously curious about his life by the time I was seventeen, and began to inquire into his biological roots and the origin of his surname, I met wit

Black America, Pardon the Interruption

By: James Clingman ~

Considering the fact that Black people are so entrenched in the distractions of this world, I think it’s appropriate that I beg your pardon, Black America, in order to get a few important points across. Although for 16 years now I have sounded the economic alarm via this newspaper column, four books, and numerous speaking engagements, it is shameful that we have failed to act upon the messages of our ancestors and contemporaries. There is still a need to “capture” our attent

             Mass Hypnosis

This is how we (the white elites) will win the game
Let just a few live the dream
Marches, sit-ins all in vain
Make 'em think they overcame

Show 'em an empty Jim Crowe grave
Apologize for making 'em slaves
Rising tempers, we must tame
Make 'em think they overcame.

Let a few experience success
Toms come aboard and control the rest
Millions will be left in pain
But they'll think they overcame.

In The Mis-Education of the Negro by Carter Godwin Woodson, it states, "If you can control a man's thinking, you don't have to worry about his actions. If you can determine what a man thinks, you do not have to worry about what he will do. If you can make a man believe that he is inferior, you don't have to compel him to seek an inferior status, he will do so without being told and if you can make a man believe that he is justly an outcast, you don't have to order him to the back door, he will g

A rebel fighter about to machete another black African to death

"The decision of the African Union as articulated by both President Zuma and Dr. Ping is totally sound; however, not for the reasons they adduced, but for the fact that the rebels need to account for the killings of black Africans, not for the pretensions of "confusing them as mercenaries hired by Gaddafi," but because of the anti-black, racist and innate hatred of black Africans, even though there are a million

THE MAROONS OF JAMAICA

The Maroons Of Jamaica

We can trace the tale of the courageous run away slaves, or Maroons of Jamaica, back to 1655, when the British captured that island. This crucial time in Jamaican history marked the end of Spanish power and the rise of an independent force in Jamaica, the Maroons. When the British conquered Jamaica, many of the Spanish inhabitants fled to neighboring Cuba, leaving behind their slaves. However, because the British soldiers were so few in number, they wer

A Funny Thing Happened at Berkeley High's All Class Reunion

3776798528_c77b7d783d.jpg
Berkeley High's Reunion

This past Saturday, Berkeley High held an all-class reunion at San Pablo Park. Ironically, although Berkeley High has been known as an integrated school, this all class reunion was 99% North American African. I had the pleasure of the 1%, a drunk white man who somehow found me among the two thousand North American Africans and decided to sit at my feet. And then proceeded to light a cigarette. I asked him to k
