The Ramey Commentaries (TM) By Mike Ramey

One of my favorite illustrations of the divorce issue rests in the plight of an elected official years ago.  This lawmaker was a ‘tough guy’ on the issue of child support.  He bucked and stomped in our Indiana Statehouse, calling for toughened penalties against those men and women who were involved with the system.  When non-custodial parents would come to the statehouse to express their views on the unfairness of the laws that lawmakers created, he objected the loudest.

     Until.  Until

“God’s children run home when the storm comes on.”

--Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Here is an absolute of life:  God allows rain to fall on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45 KJV).  To be a card-carrying member of the human race means that bad times and bad things are going to happen to each of us, simply because of the fallen condition of man.  The difference between the Christian and the unbeliever?  The Christian has God to lean upon.  The unbeliever—no matter how talented or resourceful--do

Barbados PM Mea Mottley is the best

To quote from my recent book, A Jamaica Poor No More:

“We have been conditioned to look upon the rich powerful countries as models. Why should these rich powerful countries be the model for the world with their history of slavery, colonialism, imperialism, hundreds of thousands of innocent people killed by their wars, their slaughter and dispossession of  indigenous people all over the world. In God’s name, why?

Forget them. Let us be different. In the words of Afro-American author Alice Walker,

Before we get into the last part of this series, I wanted to inject a few things which surfaced before I made the decision of putting this column to bed and shipping it out.

I happened to have a conversation with a veteran Minister whom I have a lot of respect.  His attitude towards Ministers and regular Christians being involved in politics?  Not very supportive.  He believes that Christians in general, and Ministers (Pastors included) should stay out of the political arena.  Yes, we s

There is such non-stop silliness happening in our current society that I wanted to retreat to a simpler time of writing.  Back in the days of in-person school when the children first got back from their vacation they had to share—in essay form--with their teacher and classmates what they had experienced (and hopefully learned) during their time off.

Of course, with much of society growling and snapping at each other like the counselors and the waiters from the classic tune “Hello Mudd

REFUSING THE VERY APPEARANCE OF EVIL

“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”

--I Thessalonians 5:22 KJV

A few years back I had a sit-down with a veteran cop who had lots of experience when it came to fighting gang crime.  One of the things that surfaced during our conversation was the fact that gang bangers had taken to setting up ‘front’ businesses in our city through which to funnel and launder cash and stolen merchandise.  Businesses from laundromats to barber shops and beauty parlors were

“Character Building”

The Bible.  Hard work.  Thrift.  Community investment.  Education.  Business building by men and women.  These might ‘seem’ like modern innovations.  However, if one knows their history, these items—and more—were the ‘norm’ in the old South after the Civil War and Reconstruction Era.  They were proclaimed by many b

“I’m convinced that millions of people today don’t know the Lord because of the long faced, poor, suffering little me, self-sacrificing, tell-everybody-all-their-troubles Christians who act like their second birth was just as painful to them as their first one was to their mothers.”

“Prayer is far too often the LAST thing that people—even those who know better—bother to try!”

--Pastor Chuck Smith

IF one wants to be successful in home, business, or the workplace, they must read and heed the rule book.  For those who claim the name of Christian, our rule book is the KJV Bible.  Whatever paperwork and manuals come AFTER the Bible may have rules attached to them and are merely meant to fall into line with the materials already outlined in the Scriptures.  IF one does not h

“You ask his protection, but how can you expect it if you are not agreed with him?”

--Charles Haddon Spurgeon

In one of my favorite comic strips, a boy and his father were having their typical argument over spending money.  The boy expected his father to serve as his personal ATM machine; the father insisted that the boy did his chores around the house to earn his spending cash.  Keep in mind that this boy went to church every Sunday with his family.

POSITIONED FOR: THE COMING THING

“Sometimes, we are waiting for God’s blessings; sometimes, God’s blessings are waiting for us!”

One of my favorite modern westerns is: “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.”  It ran only one season during the early 1990s but packed a lot of punch in a small package.  Legendary character actor Bruce Campbell played the lead—with a very strong supporting cast.

One of the underlying themes of the show was the dawning of th

BLACK LIVES MANIPULATED, PART 2

“You had better begin life in a hollow tree and be a man, than begin it in a rented house and be a mere tool, the imitation of a man.”

--Booker T. Washington

During my days as a juvenile court Probation Officer, I handled a high-risk caseload with many of my clients “on papers” for violent offenses.  The most amazing thing about my job is when I would have clients become crime victims, courtesy of other juveniles.  Oh, my clients were incensed and DEMAND

Racism 101

In my book, "Leave The Rat Race To The Rats, I deal extensively with racism from a very unique perspective. I blame racism on what Occupy Wall Street refer to as the 1%, the richest one per cent of America who dominate American politics. Instead of calling them the 1%, I refer to them as American Supremacists. Here is an excerpt on racism from my book:

"Racism

Blacks have been and continue to be the victims of racism in America. It is worst in the ghetto.  They have suffered at the hands of whites

Unwitting Trump Supporters

We have a solemn duty to prevent the most disastrous crisis America has ever faced.. I speak of the re-election of Donald Trump. So, a few days ago, I could not believe my ears. I was listening to my favorite radio station, the progressive WPFW 89.3 in Washington DC.  I heard criticism of the Democratic presidential nominees, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Any criticism of the Biden-Harris ticket is helping Trump. Now the conservative media and the rest of the Trump base is heaping criticism on

The Dictatorship Is Here

Our Democracy is over. We now have a dictatorship. Trump has prevailed. With his accomplices in the congress and the senate, he has immobilized these two branches and now rules by executive decrees.

The Republicans and Democrats failed to come up with a compromise covid 19 relief plan to prevent severe financial consequences for huge sections of the population. So, Trump seizes the opportunity to impose his plan by executive order.

Previously the federal government paid individuals $600 per week
