ncppr-logo-new.pngWASHINGTON, DC -- March 7 is the 50th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday," when civil rights activists were attacked by Alabama law enforcement as they tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma at the beginning of a march to the state capitol. Members of the Project 21 black leadership network are commenting on this civil rights milestone that brought increased national attention to the cause of civil rights and in particular helped to secure voting rights protections.

Please tell President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to stop trying to extradite Assata Shakur, an African American freedom fighter who is living in exile in Cuba.

The U.S. government is using negotiations with Cuba as an opportunity to go after Shakur. Roberta Jacobson, lead U.S. negotiator, testified at a recent congressional committee meeting that she raises Shakur every time she talks with Cuban officials. Jacobson declared that the return of “fugitives" is one of the Obama adminis

Last month, in a clumsy attempt to recognize Black History Month, the influential conservative website Newsmax put out its list of the 100 Most Influential African-American Republicans.

To put it mildly, let’s just say that it was about as well received as a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Obama—a total disaster.

The reporter who I assumed put the list together, Theodore Kettle, began with an ominous caveat:  “not everyone on the list may

3828571907?profile=originalIn seven years, by 2023, the U.S. will be 40 percent minority, and 50 percent of the entire population will be under 40 years old. These are the demographics that cannot be ignored as progressives move forward building opposition to institutional racism and plutocratic governing.

In my thinking, it is incumbent on today’s activists to take into account what America will look like in ten years, so we will be better positioned to ensure the future will not be governed by deniers of change. In this

Loretta Lynch Shouldn’t be Confirmed

By Raynard Jackson, Columnist

The United States Senate is bound by law not to confirm Loretta Lynch to be

our next Attorney General (AG).

Lynch is the current U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, which includes Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Long Island.  Last November, President Obama nominated her to replace current Attorney General Eric Holder.

While her legal background is impressive, that’s not the point.  In her recent testimony befor

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani’s  vicious attack on President Obama’s patriotism is obviously racially motivated. Obama has spent both terms trying to appease Republicans at the expense of the principles for which he stood as a candidate. But this attack is not political as the president is a lame duck. It is racist. If being president is no safeguard against racism, how is it for ordinary black folk?

Of course these prominent racists like Giuliani are not overt about their racism. Some like

Raynards-headshot-150x150.jpgTwo weeks ago I was compelled to set the record straight on some shenanigans going on with the staff of the RNC about the Black Republican Trailblazer event I created three years ago (see link below): http://j.mp/17gq1mu

This prompted a subsequent column by a friend of mine, Bill Reed.  This is the first time in my life that I have been publically recognized for my work and contributions to the Republican Party; but just as important, Bill is the first person to publically show an intelligent gra

WE HAVE BEEN DUPED!

February 17, 2015

When we speak truth, by all means necessary, we must present all the facts.  Sometimes in doing so, we, Black folks, sound radical and appear to be hate moguls, but in most instances, this is not at all the case.  I am sure Rep. John Lewis of Georgia has no animosity against Whites when he speaks about the Civil Rights Movement and his skull fractured at the evil hands of White policemen.  And like the “Jews” who say “Never Again” about their Holocaust, desc

AK-Rockefeller-300x196.jpgIt is now 2015 and we begin the new year by continuing our decades old struggle for freedom and independence from Indonesia. For West Papuans, this is a struggle that began on 1 May, 1963 when the Indonesian Goverment first occupied our homeland, using military force to dominate our people. Fifty odd years later I find myself living a world away in Washington, D.C., seat of power of the influential United States Goverment. Since I arrived in what Americans call “Our Nation’s Capitol”, I feel f
