A SUCCESS PRIMER FOR YOUNG BLACK MEN, PART 11

We’ve spent much of a great year together, examining the components of manhood that you—my young brother—will need to become an upright man in a society full of males who are not sure in what direction they are traveling.  Who knows?  There may come a time when you can pass on your knowledge to another young brother, as I have been blessed to pass on what I have learned in life to you.

I just have a few other things to impart to you, to ad

HBCU OR NOT HBCU—A RECRUITMENT ISSUE? PART 1

A few years back, I got into a heated discussion with a member of a local organization dedicated to helping young Black men and women to attend the college of their choice.  Keep in mind that this local organization had been ‘discovered’ by the local Caucasian money brokers and were now ‘flush with cash’.  Thus, the group—in my humble opinion—did not have to ‘recruit’ young Black students from the ‘hood’ anymore, meaning urban schools.

A SUCCESS PRIMER FOR YOUNG BLACK MEN, PART 9

Here’s a saying that parents have passed down to their sons over the generations: “Get your education, for it is something that society cannot take away from you, once you have it!”  An addendum to this is the following: “You can be excellent in whatever your life’s work will be, provided that you are willing to train for it!”

Going to school on a regular basis, showing up daily for your lessons is a part of the training.

This may come as a shock to many of you, my young brother, but the media—especially Social Media—is NOT your friend (I capitalize SM for emphasis).  The media—including the Mainstream Press (of which I like to call it the “Mainstream Mess”) makes its money off the repackaging and recycling of stereotypes of Black men—including young Black men.  Further, in this ‘new age’ of electronic media through social platforms—under Diversity, Equity, and I

A SUCCESS PRIMER FOR YOUNG BLACK MEN, PART 6

Young man, what is the condition of your soul?  Do you have ‘good religion’?  No, I am not talking about ‘just going to church’.  I am speaking about having a firm relationship with the one who has bought and paid for the TRUE church with his body and blood—the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now, at this point, there are those who will cry out that I am meddling in a topic that I should not tread.  Nevertheless, I will tread into this arena, for today,

A SUCCESS PRIMER FOR YOUNG BLACK MEN, PART 5

In continuing the topics of virginity and sexual responsibility for my young Black brothers, let’s review.  First, we are living in an age where some girls and women of ALL races are sexually aggressive towards young men in general, and young Black men in particular.  My objective is to put forth some frank man-to-man talk to help protect our young men from those girls and women—some EVEN in the church—who are under the control of Satan through

A SUCCESS PRIMER FOR YOUNG BLACK MEN, PART 4

As I continue with this 12-part series, I have decided to proclaim 2024 as “The Year of the Young Black Man.”  I believe that they are doing well, despite the negative images put forth by the “mainstream mess”.  I realize that you haven't heard about these topics from 'other' areas of the electronic frontier.  This great site is where you need to be, as the action is popping here!

A few years back, during my Probation Officer days, I made a

I’ve worn a variety of different hats over my lifetime.  All of them have, at time or another, ‘bumped uglies’ with the impact and effects of juvenile crime.  Whether it has been in a classroom, in a courtroom, or in the streets, juvenile crime is the issue that spends more time taking—rather than giving.  In short, regardless of what you see on social media, in the ‘mainstream mess’ or in the latest video game offering or in the latest rap/hip-

THERE ARE BETTER WAYS

A few years back, it was revealed that for every one million students who played basketball, maybe two would have the talent to turn pro.  This was roughly the same ratio for those who wanted to play professional football.  This simply means that for the rest of the young men involved in athletics, they would need to have a realistic ‘back up’ plan for success after their high school and college sports days were behind them.

Over the years, we would hope that man
