About Me:(Generous response attract more interest)
I am a longtime activist who is President and CEO of Sokoya Enterprises. I hold a doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration, a masters degree in Business and Public Administration and an undergraduate degree in Social Work. I am a certified diversity trainer, a mediator, an infant massage instructor, and a facilitator of discussion groups on bigotry. I have received numerous awards and citations for her work in innovative program development to combat domestic violence and is listed in Who's Who in Executives & Professionals.

A longtime social work practitioner and grassroots organizer, I have worked as a school social worker and a family life educator, has developed and administered a number of psycho-social programs for youth (i.e., Science of Living Curriculum), was the chief executive officer of a private school for inner city residents in Newark, New Jersey; and, worked for several years on the national level for a national health organization and a professional membership organization. As Executive Director of the Children’s Trust Fund, I was the driving force in development of Parents Anonymous® parent mutual support groups in the District of Columbia.

Because of my concern regarding education, I returned to school in 2006 to obtain a doctoral degree to enable me to serve as a bridge from high school to college for youth from low income families. The title of my dissertation is A Historical Analysis of the Contribution of the Black Power Movement to Higher Education, 1960-1980. I have worked as an adjunct professor at the Sojourner Douglass College in Annapolis, MD.

During prior employment and through my position as Chair of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence’s Multi-Cultural Task Force, I developed a service model for African American women who are victims of domestic violence and a domestic violence prevention model for African American children and youth. I provided leadership on the Task Force to offer cultural competency training for domestic violence service providers and court interpreters throughout Maryland.

I would like to network with other like-minded individuals who were/are active in the struggle for human rights for African American people. I also am seeking training and consulting opportunities in management and to share the African-centered models I have developed.

What’s in a Word?

There is significant discourse on political correctness. Some argue we taken it too far. Others say we have not gone far enough. Although some people may have taken this construct to the extreme, there is substantial justification for tailoring one’s language (and behavior). Words hurt, and the negative effects can stay with you for years. The use of offensive language continues. Three examples of such terms are:

• Tribalism,

• Banana Republic, and

• Voodoo Economics.

Sexual Harassment: Who is the Villain?

Posted on November 26, 2017 at 3:19pm 4 Comments

Women must stop portraying themselves as perpetual victims. As an African American woman, I have been more oppressed by women than men. So, women, stop the sanctimonious attitude!

This essay is commentary on the recent revelations and accusations of sexual harassment, rape, and pedophilia committed by powerful men.  It attempts to put this problem into context. First, with exception of the second woman who accused Congressman Al Franklen of improper behavior, I believe the women who…

The Fascist Protest in Charlottesville, VA: A Message for White America

Posted on August 14, 2017 at 10:37am 0 Comments

First, I do not hate White people. I do view with disdain their collective actions/oppression of African Americans in the past. I also am strongly opposed to the beliefs of the KKK, Neo-Nazis, Fascists, and other groups that align with them. But, this essay is not about that, not exactly. Racism and bigotry are part of the American fabric. They have been around and have thrived since the beginnings of this country starting with the massacre of Native Americans. Globally, they have even…

The Shame of the Civil Rights Movement

Posted on January 12, 2017 at 10:41am 3 Comments

Leaders of the Civil Rights Movement are colluding with media to rewrite history – yes, rewrite history.  Both entities assert that all of Black activism during the 1960s and 1970s was part of the Civil Rights Movement.  They have even coined the period, the Civil Rights Era.  There were other movements going on during the same period as the Civil Rights Movement.  Just as (some say) the Civil Rights Movement is the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther…
