Recently, I had lunch with a very powerful Republican elected official who is a good friend of mine.  We have extremely candid conversations, especially about race (he is white).  Out of nowhere he asked me what was the reason Blacks have a historical affinity for Cadillac automobiles (named after the French explorer who founded Detroit in 1701).

I responded by saying the same reason Blacks had a historical affinity for the Republican Party.  He looked very confu

We Will Always Love You, Whitney

How can a blackbird not sing
ushering the dawn of a new day
calling heaven to hear her song
no words for this pain
the blues we sing
a voice so true so real
yet we overstand the tragic note
in the song we all sing
living in this wilderness
of North America
down here on the ground with
the devil
how can he pay for his sins
not only Whitney
but the millions gone in a whisper
what price for this
worthless dollars at the Federal Reserve

I hope I have sufficiently shocked you to attention, because there is a disaster brewing right under our noses, right in the Black family community, that has been flying low under the radar.

As a matter of fact, I and others would probably not have become aware of it had it not been announced at Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Push 15th Anniversary Wall Street Initiative, during a panel discussion on the disappearing Black media.

Talk about a shock! When James L. Winston, Execut

Eric Williams, a Dallas-based filmmaker and anti-bullying activist claims that while he was going about the business of counseling youth in Arlington, Texas, the site for the NFL’s ‘Super Bowl XLV’ he was  “bullied by the NFL”.

“I had permission from the Best Buy Company to use their parking lot to set up my bus near Cowboys Stadium, but that meant nothing to the police and NFL private security people who told me to move my bus,” Williams argues. He said they asked if he ha

Last week I wrote a column entitled, “Roland Martin Is Not GLAAD.”  In that column, I discussed the unfair treatment of TV personality, Roland Martin.

I thought I was finished writing about this issue and was prepared to move on.  But, after receiving tons of phone calls, voicemails, and emails about Tom Joyner’s “Letter to Roland:  Make It Right,” I feel compelled to make another comment about the Martin affair

"The New York Times wrote that Houston "possesses one of her generation's most powerful gospel-trained voices, but she eschews many of the churchier mannerisms of her forerunners. She uses ornamental gospel phrasing only sparingly, and instead of projecting an earthy, tearful vulnerability, communicates cool self-assurance and strength, building pop ballads

Actually, that should really be pretty easy to do since there aren't that many of us who watch CNN on the reg anyway.  And I suppose that's what they're counting on.  The fact that we really don't subscribe to their brand of reporting.

But we need to send a message. Roland Martin was treated unfairly, stupidly and with prejudice by CNN. As an associate and friend of mine used to say that CNN stood for "the continuously negative news."   And I totally concur.  But they've go
