Word Sound Power and Dub Poetry
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’ - John 1:1
If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.’ - Nikola Tesla

Throughout the ages, poets, philosophers, and mystics have spoken about the mysteries of words, sounds and vibrations. It is widely stated that the word is creative, but what does that mean? The Rastafari tradition asserts that ‘word sound is power,’ meaning t

By Ras Zuke | I recently had a chance to watch a Jamaican film called One Love. One Love is a Jamaican romance film centered around a traditional church girl played by Cherine Anderson and a Rastafarian musician played by Ky-Mani Marley. The movie is the typical story of a sweet innocent girl who is in a relationship with a guy of the same upbringing, played by Idris Elba, and they are set to get married when all of a sudden she meets a guy from the "wrong side of the tracks" or in this case, th

Fellow  Jamaicans, St. Thomas Parishioner and friends:

I am writing to seek your support on a venture that is close to my heart. I am joining a medical missionary team  to St. Thomas Jamaica in March 16-24th 2012. They have done amazing work over the 10 years they have been going to our beloved St. Thomas. As you know St. Thomas is probably the most neglected parish and they are in dire need of consistent healthcare. This is the first time they will have a Jamaican / St. Thomanian on the team

Jamaica Awareness with South Florida Caribbean American Heritage Month Symposium Examines
“The Impact of Rastafari on the Culture of Jamaica and the World”

Half-a-century ago, the Rastafari Movement in Jamaica was brought to the attention of a larger part of the still-hostile Jamaican and world community – a citizenry which had developed a fearful attitude largely based on ignorance about the phenomenon and its adherents – by the publication of a report on the movement by three professors from the

The Jamaican Government MUST Resign!

Should Prime Minister Bruce Golding resign?

This is not a difficult question to answer. But first let's answer this question: What to do about the fiercely independent Jamaican Press? When will investigative journalism arrive in Jamaica? When will the do more than rewriting press releases and writing only what's said?

WHY DID I HAVE TO READ IN THE MIAMI HERALD THAT SENATOR TO TAVARES-FINSON IS DUDUS'S ATTORNEY?

Reggae and dancehall A culture clash

Edward Seaga: It is felt, generally, that all Jamaican popular music can be described by one brand name - reggae. This assumption has been widely accepted because of the dominant position of reggae music, which has so captured international popularity that it is a phenomenon. But musical styles remain popular for only so many years. Then comes the period when the composing of new tunes ceases and, the music thereafter lives on in memories and reputation. Reggae reached that stage 25 years ago.

commonsense 714 John Maxwell: Some of the most amazing things happened within the last two weeks. Hundreds of miles above the earth, an obsolete Russian satellite collided over Siberia with a American communication satellite, and the odds against that happening are so astronomic that nobody had bothered to calculate them. So, many of us were more than surprised when we heard a few days later that two nuclear submarines, one British, the other French, had collided deep under the Atlantic That w
