    New York Black Expo News Update: The New York Black Expo will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2014 in Manhattan. The New York Black Expo is an annual event focusing on buying from Black Owned and Caribbean Owned Businesses. I believe that Black businesses are just as good as everybody else's and we should support our local Black owned businesses by any and all means necessary. With that being said we are asking all Black Owned business to participate in this event and we encourage all family and friends of these black owned businesses to come out and purchase their products or services.             ​Dr. Sanford is the Queen Mother of African consciousness. She retired as a New York State Regent of Education. A strong defender of African students in the schools of New York City, she was one of the first major educators to speak up for Afrocentric education. Fighting the opposition on the Board of Regents, Dr. Sanford became a household name for her courage, determination, and relentless campaign against ignorance, violence, and self-hatred.

    The L.A. Black Book Expo is raising funds for the 2014 LABBX Scholarship. The scholarship committee is asking for churches, organizations, schools and groups to host brief speaking engagements where they may come in and discuss the importance of supporting African-American youth cover the cost of books as they begin their college careers. The average cost of books for a first year college student, enrolled full-time, can range from $750-$1,000. Without books, college success can be just out of reach.

    LABBX will host an awards dinner to honor the applicants and the winner of the scholarship the last week of July (date and details TBA). If you are unable to host or attend a 2014 LABBX fundraising event you may purchase this year's featured book The Cinderella Syndrome: When the glass slipper no longer fits by contacting labbex@gmail.com.
