    Saturday, June 21, 2014, twenty-four years to the date, at 10:00 AM, the people of Brooklyn will commemorate the 24th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s visit to New York City in 1990.  The program will be held at Columbus Park-Borough Hall Plaza near 209 Joralemon Street in the Brooklyn Heights section. This event is free and open to the public.  Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, Office of South African Consul General-NYC, and noted anti-apartheid activists are expected to participate.  Cultural activities provided by the Jazz Drummer’s Circle and South African musicians.

    The event is co-sponsored by the Office of Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Committee to Remember Nelson Mandela, and Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium.  Brooklyn fondly remember Mr. Mandela’s June 21, 1990 visit to the borough as part of his eight city USA tour.  Mandela’s first official stop was in central Brooklyn.  This trip was made just months after his freedom from 27 years of imprisonment in South Af

    This half-day retreat is designed to allow mothers & daughters, ages five and up, to interact, discuss, bond and role-play different aspects of their relationship and enhance communications and understanding.     Reachout will be hosting its 9th Annual Walk for Peace on Saturday 7nd June 2014. The event starts at 1:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Lakefront Promenade Park in Mississauga. Last year’s event was a huge success with participants from all across the GTA. Our goal is to raise funds for Reachout’s upcoming Youth Scholarship Awards as well as to bring awareness to the constant violence that is plaguing our community, to motivate the youth to play a part in creating peaceful and positive relationship with each other. There is a beautiful trail in the park and after the walk we will have a free barbeque and games for everyone. This will be an all-day fun and family event. We want to address the problems of youth in the community, to promote positive relationships between youth, to work with parents, members of the community and other organizations.
