Even though the United States has over 800 military bases in some 70 countries throughout the globe, Africa is often left out of the conversation by peace, antiwar and progressive activists for a host of reasons. The forum will explore the following:

• How US-sponsored counter-terrorism strategies have been contributing to deaths and disappearances of hundreds of people across the African continent;
• The increased militarization of the African continent and its implications for resistance efforts by local communities and social justice activists in Africa;
• The connection between the militarization of the African continent and Black communities in the United States;
• Reasons why the peace, anti-war and progressive groups have left Africa out of the discussion when challenging US global military footprint;

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s untimely departure, the National Civil
Rights Museum has launched a year-long commemoration to celebrate Dr. King's legacy from April 4, 2017 to April 4, 2018.

An African proverb tells us, "Until the Story of the hunt is told by the Lion, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter", which means until the history of our enslavement is told by New Afrikans, the story of nullify the horrors of our enslavement and post enslavement oppression. Our On the Move Excursion shines a light on the horrors of our dehumanization and on our courageous fight against that oppression.
