Over the last week, the news has been filled with stories of the massive manhunt for former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner for allegedly killing three people connected to police. This has caused great turmoil in society, including within top levels of the LAPD and city government. One thing which stands out—and which has been noted by the New York Times and other major media—is the impact Dorner’s accusations and depictions of racist brutality and discriminatory practices of the LAPD have had

Looking Back and Moving Forward in Black History
Davis, CA. Black History Month is often seen as a time to reflect back and look at the accomplishments and progress that have been made by African-American’s. While it’s important to look back, it’s also important to look forward and take into consideration the things that continue to affect black communities on a daily basis. While it may seem trivial, appearance and the way it’s perceived by American society is one of those things.

The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM) maintains that regardless of what one may think of Christopher Dorner and the rights or wrongs of his actions, we want to call attention to the truth’s stated in Dorner’s manifesto regarding the pervasiveness of racism in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
As many historians and commentators have pointed out since the release of Dorner’s manifesto, the LAPD is a notoriously racist institution. The Ramparts Division scandal of the late 1990’s is one

Last week, I criticized President Obama for his anemic, voiceless, almost whispered response to the tragic death of Hadiya Pendleton. She was a 15-year-old honor student who was shot and killed in Chicago two weeks ago after having performed at Obama’s inauguration.
To my total amazement, there was a torrent of criticism from within the Black community about Obama’s tepid public statement about Hadiya’s death. I was proud that many in the Black community finally

• On Saturday, family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of Hadiya Pendleton, shot to death last month at age 15 in a South Side park. Michelle Obama graced the memorial with her caring presence, a mother comforting a brokenhearted family for the unbearable horror that took place about a mile from the Obama home in Kenwood. The first lady’s presence brought dignity, stature and the reassurance of concern and compassion from the highest level of government.

Nigerians must be the most pious bunch of Homo sapiens in the world right now, judging by our total surrender to prayers as the answer to all our problems. We are the only group of people on earth expecting God to climb down from heaven to run our government, business and domestic affairs for us. The vogue is to do nothing for ourselves because God will fill the pot-holes on our roads, provide us with regular electricit

~ Just imagine someone in your family travelling half way across the country to help a family they don’t know nor have any connection to; while at the same time his own family is in crisis. Just imagine how you would feel if your family barely had food to eat, but yet your father goes across town and gives some of your food to a family that he doesn’t even know.
I am sure in both cases the family would feel betrayed and a bit confused; and outsiders would sure

Chicago is in a state of emergency. Lives are being lost. Fear is growing. Local officials, ministers and community activists are working diligently but cannot break the cycle. We’re seeing more than one funeral a day. Our children are traumatized. Many are afraid to go to school.
In this crisis, we need the president’s leadership. President Obama can provide the knowledge, vision and inspiration to bring us together to address the crisis. He can speak to the children to cal

On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton performed at President Obama’s Inauguration and on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, she was killed by gun fire while hanging out with friends at a park in Chicago, IL USA. This story truly saddens me. Any unnecessary loss of life is a sad occasion. I have been proposing a solutions to gun violence to political leaders, including The White House, yet they seem hell bent on playing political games with the National Rifle Association (NRA).
We all know that the Secon
