A DANGEROUS SOCIAL TREND: THE BLACK WEDDING BAND

It ranks right up there with a woman asking the ‘steady’ man in her life to marry her—I’m going to broach the subject of the solid black wedding band, or, the wedding band with a majority of black trim clearly visible to the public.  I don’t know who started this ‘social trend’ but there is danger written all over it.

I recently ran into a young man who displayed such a band while we were at my local barber shop.  I saw his black wedding band and showed him my gold wedding band.  My rationale for calling this to his attention was simple: “Young man, marriage should be gone into as a celebration, not as a time for sadness.”  He seemed a little surprised at my assessment.  I trust that he ‘got it’.  It is my prayer that some of you other brothers ‘get it’ and go back and swap out the black band for a gold one.  I also pray that my older warriors on the marriage field pass on such wisdom to younger men that they know.

      Including young Pastors.

Marriage between one man and one woman was designed by God as a celebration, not a time for misery.  IF you choose right, it WILL be right!  In the words of Pastor Tony Evans: “If you treat your wife like a thoroughbred, she won’t end up being a nag”.  Wearing a black wedding band, in my view, is letting the world know that a brother is not putting much joy nor effort into the relationship—especially when he flashes ‘the coal’ in public.

Further, it opens him up for ‘propositioning’ from the neighborhood Lolitas and tramps.

Am I getting through to the brotherhood?  Shout AMEN, somebody!

There are MORE than enough problems in this old, sin-sick world.  A quick scan of your favorite news offerings or social media outlets will clearly open your eyes.  The attack on marriage, the home, and the family—as God intended them to be—has been going on since the Garden of Eden.  Satan has no new tricks, but he does have new ways to bring them to public light.

In my view, the black wedding band is just the latest ‘attack’ tactic.  Pastors, PLEASE be on the lookout for this ‘marital impostor’ when it comes time for pre-marital counseling.  As a matter of fact, if you see a potential bride willing to possibly wear a black wedding band herself, PLEASE advise her to come to her senses and get a gold band.

Why start off a marriage in the negative?  A gold band is a major positive, AMEN?

I might as well bring this up.  I find it highly amusing that those who ‘mock’ marriage with the black band gimmick are the SAME ones who—IF they are married—expect their marriages to be able to survive satanic attack.  Balderdash!  IF one is quick to attack YOUR marriage, they should NOT be shocked when their marriage, home and kids come under attack from someone else.  To me, this is kinda like the Abortion on Demand issue—where those who are pro-murder (pro-choice) will urge others to kill THEIR kids—but expect us to ‘get excited’ when their kids do well in school, or, when pro-murder women get pregnant and are ‘expecting’.

      But I digress.

Brothers, take a tip from ‘A Certified Old Guy’.  Show your wife and your marriage the proper respect.  Ditch the black wedding band.  Go gold—or don’t be shocked when she ain’t at home!
