HINTS FOR YOUNG MEN TO BUILD SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGES, PART 2

As we pick up our commentary from part one, let’s take the time to review some of the highlights through the hints I have been blessed to share thus far concerning young men and the building of successful marriages. An old African Proverb plays a major part in this series on marriage: “Give advice. If one will not take it, let adversity teach them.” I am merely providing advice for young brothers on marriage from a biblical, business and common-sense perspective. You are free to accept it and just as free to disregard it. As one or more wise men have said over the years: “Life will eat your lunch, and the bag it comes in.”

The FIRST hint that I would pass along to a young man considering marriage is for him to have surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and NOT to marry a woman unless she has ALSO surrendered her life to Jesus—well before you two have met (II Corinthians 6:14 KJV). I’m not saying that God can’t give a second chance at marriage—for I am a testimony of his love and grace and mercy in the marriage department (Revelation 12:11). However, the aim of being a Christian is ALWAYS upholding His best plan—one man and one woman married for a lifetime.

The SECOND hint? BE YE WISE! Do NOT be swayed by her—or her friends. Know yourself. Only YOU will know whether or not you will be ready to propose and get married to that young lady. Further, only ASK the young lady that God has in mind for you!

The THIRD hint? BE YE ALERT! Slippers and sleepers need not consider marriage. Contrary to popular belief, women are NOT that hard to figure out. The KJV Bible holds that they are the weaker vessel. Further, one may freely study The Book of Proverbs if they need to understand the various types of good and bad women abounding in our society—especially Chapter 31 of that Book.

Before we move on to my next few hints, let me repeat this item: In a feminized country (which is what America has become), God’s plan and God’s ‘Talking Book’ the KJV Bible is mocked and ridiculed; women have been lured out of the home away from their husbands and children, and marriage is viewed not for love; not to raise a family, but as a status symbol. Divorces rise as women under the ‘spell’ of feminism are discontented because they ‘got what they wanted, but didn’t like what they got’ thus marriages are ended. Thanks to the advent of No Fault divorce (also created by feminists and their weak-kneed male supporters) women who have bought into this toxic brew of satanic rebellion get the house, the car, the kids, alimony AND child support—but discover that the husband that THEY forced out, has been viewed as a godsend by another woman who has NOT bought the feminist lie.

OK, let’s move on to my next few hints.

 HINT #4—BE YE SELECTIVE:

My young brother, we—in our present age—are surrounded by media offerings like Real Housewives Of … as a representation of the state of ‘modern’ women. Some of the women who make these—and other—reality shows are little more than ‘eye candy shrews’: looking good, sounding bad, and guaranteed to make a young brother sad. Further, there are a LOT of young women—some who even go to church and can name the name of the Lord—who like to model the current trends of fashion, social media and the big and small screens. These types of women will look good on your arm, but in the end will cause you some kind of harm.

 HINT #5—BE YE LOGICAL:

A man must grow into handling decisions by the use of logic—not emotion. People ruled by feelings and emotion are causing all kinds of problems in our modern era, whether they are in politics, entertainment, or in the news business. If you are interested in a young woman, make sure that she knows how to carry herself as a lady (yes, I know that this is a cringe-worthy term in some circles), or at least has a modicum of what we used to call ‘class’ back in the day.

I’ll say this probably more than once, but it bears repeating: A young lady wants her man—especially a husband—whom she can feel proud of, even if he doesn’t have all the breaks going his way in the present. And, my young brother, the woman whom you choose to wed is going to represent the HIGHEST level of your decision abilities. It is ALWAYS best to remember this.

Quick story. The mayor of a city was riding as the Grand Marshal of a local parade, when the procession passed by a local gas station. The Mayor turned to his wife and said: “I’ll bet that you’re glad that you married me. IF you would have married THAT guy, you’d be married to a gas station owner.” The wife looked back at him. “No, honey, HE would be the Mayor and YOU would be the gas station attendant!”

Having the right woman in your corner in your future IS dependent upon listening to God and being logical in selecting the right woman to marry in the present.

 HINT #6—BE YE NOT DISTRACTED:

The final hint for our time together this month is a critical one: IF you are serious about getting that special woman for your wife, do NOT get distracted from your mission by her outer beauty. As the late Pastor Wayne E. Anderson noted: “Cute can’t always cook!” This simply means that your future beloved NEEDS to have her spiritual house in order, along with her ability to take care of a home. This may not be ‘popular’ in this modern age, but, young brother, this will pay off in ways you cannot imagine, down the road.

      More to come.
