BOSTON - A MIXED MEDICINE BAG: Original Black Wampanoag Folklore, by Mwalim *7) has returned to publication and is available for purchase as a paperback and an ebook on amazon. The much sought after piece of multi-ethnic literature went out of print when the books publisher, Talking Drum Press, LTD folded in 2014. Mwalim's company, Liberation Multimedia, LLC obtained the rights to the book and re-released it this week on Amazon.

A MIXED... is a collection of short stories or 'folk-tales' by internationally acclaimed storyteller and performing artist, Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor made it's first appearance as a 7-story chapbook in 1998. The book, subtitled "Original Black Wampanoag Folk-Tales" originally was published as an item for Mwalim to sell at spoken-word and music performances, but ended up getting purchased by several schools throughout the country as multicultural, educational literature. In 2007 Talking Drum Press, LTD published an updated version of the book with an additional 8 stories and the book enjoyed three printings before the company closed.

Mwalim who is a writer and performing artist of Mashpee Wampanoag and West Indian American parentage, began performing professionally as a storyteller in the late 1980s and would be often asked to tell "authentic" Wampanoag folk-tales. Not wanting to exploit the culture and traditions, he began making up tales that he could attest were "authentic". His storytelling performances became quite popular also earning numerous grants and fellowships.

"This book is mores an example of artistic expression than tradition. I melded storytelling traditions and styles that I grew up with into one format." - Mwalim

When the book was published in 2007, it quickly became a heavily ordered piece of literature by colleges and universities with African American, Native American and Multicultural literature courses and programs, as well as community-based literature programs.
