The 2008 CIN Caribbean Lecture Series will feature the young, outstanding Jamaican entrepreneur, Lowell Hawthorne O.D., Founder, President and CEO of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill, the largest manufacturer, distributor and franchisor of Caribbean baked products in the United States. Hawthorne brings to this position a wealth of experience and a solid record of Achievement, both as an accountant and entrepreneur. Lowell Hawthorne graduated from Oberlin High School and Gratham College in Jamaica before migrating to the United States in 1981. He was employed as an accountant to the New York Police Department while pursuing studies leading to an Associate degree obtained at Bronx Community College. He later studied Business Administration at Baruch and Lehman Colleges and is a product of the City University of New York system. In 1989 he, with his close-knit family, opened his first baked goods retail outlet on East Gun Hill Road in the Bronx selling breads, buns and pastries. The popularity of this first outlet grew rapidly and shortly gave rise to the establishment of several other outlets across the New York metropolitan area in prominent Caribbean neighborhoods. Today Golden Krust has expanded by leaps and bounds and now encompasses over 100 branches across nine states. Lowell Hawthorne's Address : Entrepreneurship - the Key to Unlocking Financial Wealth will showcase the assent of the Golden Krust empire, from it's original location in the Bronx to it's position today. His Address will definitely inspire young businessmen on the road to becoming millionaires. This annual CIN Caribbean Lecture Series will again be staged at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, 515 Malcolm X Boulevard in Manhattan on Wednesday, November 12 at 7.00 pm. Light refreshments will be served from 6.00 pm. Previous CIN Lecture Series presenters were Professor Rex Nettleford (2004), Professor Robert Hill (2005) and two former Jamaican Prime Ministers, The Honourable Edward Seaga (2006) and The Honourable Percival James Patterson (2007). The CIN Caribbean Lecture Series is sponsored by Capital & Credit Financial Group, Jamaica National, Golden Krust, Caribbean Life, The Gleaner Company and Air Jamaica.
