Reachout will be hosting its 9th Annual Walk for Peace on Saturday 7nd June 2014. The event starts at 1:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Lakefront Promenade Park in Mississauga. Last year’s event was a huge success with participants from all across the GTA. Our goal is to raise funds for Reachout’s upcoming Youth Scholarship Awards as well as to bring awareness to the constant violence that is plaguing our community, to motivate the youth to play a part in creating peaceful and positive relationship with each other. There is a beautiful trail in the park and after the walk we will have a free barbeque and games for everyone. This will be an all-day fun and family event. We want to address the problems of youth in the community, to promote positive relationships between youth, to work with parents, members of the community and other organizations.
Reachout Committee is a voluntary, non-profit community-based organization founded in 2001 in Mississauga in response to problems of conflict and violence in the African-Canadian community. Its membership includes active members from the local community with youth from all cultural backgrounds. Since its inception, Reachout has served many youth by operating and managing several programs and projects, and utilizing many trained volunteers from the community to support its activities. Reachout provides these services to the community of Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton.
Empowering our youth is Reachout’s main focus. Creating an environment of mutual respect and trust between youth and adults as well as between the youth themselves is crucial. Reachout works to build positive relationships between youth, the police and justice system. Reachout is open to all youth regardless of age, gender, socio-economic background, sexual orientation, abilities or ideological perspective. We mainly respond to the needs of our young people. Reachout strives to be a self-sufficient organization but we are dependent upon the financial contribution of our members and supporters for the successful implementation of our work.
We will advertise your company name on all Walk for Peace material prior to the event; your company will have verbal recognition during the event. If you don’t think you will be able to participate in the Walk, a pledge/donation to support us would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! All donations and pledges must be received a week before the event. Please consider making a donation/pledge to this year’s Walk for Peace.
Over the years this organization has made significant affecting positive change amongst the youths and has become a well respected, highly visible and vibrant grassroots organization. Reachout Committee is known as an organization that supports community projects.
We are looking forward to this challenge and achieving new personal goals while raising money for such a worthy organization.We’re hoping to make this walk-a-thon the best ever, so the more contributions we raise, the more successful we’ll be at achieving our goal.
