CITYWIDE STUDENT-LABOR-COMMUNITY MEETING AT HOSTOS COLLEGE
- Mar 5, 2011 from 10:00am to 1:00pm EST
- Location: Hostos College at the Savoy Manor
- Description:
In the wake of a massive outpouring of support for the occupation of Wisconsin’s capitol by students and public sector workers, New Yorkers rallied last week at New York City Hall, and an emerging coalition will meet Saturday at Hostos College to plan for more action. The coalition includes numerous public sector unions, the South Bronx Community Congress, the Freedom Party, the CUNY Mobilization Network, the Coalition for Public Education, and the Bail Out the People Movement.
“They have pushed us and pushed us till we’re right at the cliff,” said Ramon Jimenez, a leader of the South Bronx Community Congress and 2010 Freedom Party candidate for New York attorney general. “We’ve got to turn around and push back,” he added. “We need to come together around a common strategy.”
The CUNY Mobilization Network has been meeting with union leaders in recent weeks to plan a “Day of Rage” on March 24 at City Hall. “Students want to combine their demands with the workers because it’s really one

First Forum: Why is the DR Congo Genocide Being Ignored?
Speaker: Yaa-Lengi Ngemi
● Over 7 million people have been killed in the most
heinous imaginable ways: cremated, buried alive,
decapitated, slaughtered in masses.
● Hundreds of thousands of women and young girls
have been gang-raped and mutilated.
● Hundreds of thousands have been tortured.
● Millions have been displaced.
On October 1, 2010, the UN finally released the so-called
“Mapping Report, 1993 – 2003” on the Democratic
Republic of Congo, which documented most serious
violations of human rights and international humanitarian
law perpetrated by Rwanda in the DRC genocide.
What is the significance of this report? What is the significance of the many NGO’s reports
documenting the fact that the president of the Congo has been assassinating Congolese
civilian and military leaders as well as civilians in Kinshasa?
And, why the world’s SILENCE?
