Description: The month of March is a special time for remembering the significant contribution of women to society. As part of International Women’s Month, The Equiano Society and Windrush Foundation in association with Museum in Docklands present a unique weekend event in celebration of NUBIAN WOMEN. Nubia is the homeland of one of Africa's earliest black civilization, with a history that can be traced from about 10,000 B.C. through Nubian monuments and artifacts. In antiquity, Nubia was a land of great natural wealth, of gold mines, ebony, ivory and perfumes. Its glorious history and heritage predate that of Egypt. The main speaker on 21 & 22 March at Museum in Docklands will be a Nubian: Mrs Thanaa Mossa, Deputy Director of Nubia Museum, Aswan, Egypt, and her topic is: Queen Nefertari, wife of Ramesses II. Empowerment Sessions" sponsored by Happily Natural Day. Now that Barack Obama has been elected President of the United States, many are proclaiming that racism is no longer a reality or problem. In this presentation, author and political activist Ewuare X. Osayande lays out a critical analysis of how the system of white supremacy continues to wreak havoc on the lives and aspirations of Black people and other people of color in this country and around the world. Malcolm X once stated that "racism is like a Cadillac, they make a new model every year." Osayande will address how this "new" model of white supremacy in the era of Obama must be confronted, exposed and resisted.
