The Ramey Encourager by Mike Ramey

TRY AGAIN!

The only way to overcome failure is to try again!  As one preacher put it: “You may not have been ready for it to happen in your twenties, thirties, or forties.  Success that comes too early would kill you.”  Therefore, God—in His infinite wisdom, grace and mercy may have delayed your success track for your protection.

I mention this topic because of some of the news stories that I have been reading concerning people having problems finding a job.  Of course, we have been in a ‘pocket recession’—meaning we have government that is too chicken to mention that we have been in an economic downturn for the last several years because of the ‘government spending frenzy’ on stuff this country doesn’t need, and because businesses have been hiring cheap, illegal alien labor—and displacing American workers.

A job search is a matter of honesty.  If you are searching for a ‘survival job’ while you are looking to get into your career, then you have a ‘dual track’ search—searching for two types of jobs at the same time.  There is nothing wrong with this, if you are honest with yourself that this is what you are doing.  Also, some jobs are not for you.  Nothing worse than landing a job or getting a promotion with a company, only to find out down the short road that the company is about to go out of business.

Now, if you happen to be a Christian, you are operating on a different economic level than those who are not Christians.  This is a hard fact, but a fact, nevertheless.  Your source is God, you have Jesus and His Word in your mental flash drive, and you have the Holy Ghost guiding you to those opportunities that will bring greater glory to the Lord.  You see, a Christian can’t just work in any old job and claim to be lining up with the Word.  God gives you wisdom through the Word…from job hunting to promotions and raises.  The KJV Bible does contain a LOT on financial issues and business success.  It’s up to you to repent, humble yourself, and dig for your own food, through the scriptures.

Let me encourage all.  While you are job hunting, you should take the opportunity to minimize your debt; repair and nurture your professional and/or personal networks of colleagues and friends and make use of whatever resources to ‘tighten up’ your resume and skill set.  While we do live in an age of technology, employers still prefer to hire those with people skills—the ability to work hard, to communicate well with the public and staff, and who show some ‘grit’ to have enough common sense to know when to have enough respect to put in a full day’s work, for a full day’s pay, and take the proper time off to get your rest and recharge your batteries.

Attitude is STILL everything when it comes to a job hunt.  Does yours need improvement?

One last thing to remember: A job will never give you as much love as your give to it.  Your home life, personal relationships, bible study and church attendance must be in the right order for employment success.  You were still you when you got the job.  Don’t let it change your core when you eventually enter your new employment door.
