The Quick Scan by Mike Ramey

WHICH ONE SHALL WE HONOR?

Recently, I happened across a toy commercial on television.  It featured the modern update of a popular doll series for girls.  The doll in question could be anything.  However, out of the nine or ten dolls displayed, not one of them had the TOP vocation of wife and mother.  For—as we all know—without wives and mothers the REST of the careers soon become meaningless.

Take Women’s History Month.  It is much the same thing as the doll commercial I mentioned at the beginning of our time together.  Many of the women are selected by the ‘mainstream mess’ (MSM) of which I include the social media mob, and the alphabet mafia.  This year—I kid you not—a biological man was selected as a woman to be honored.  Yeah, right.  But I digress.

There are only two types of women—and variations of them within the two main categories: The godly woman and the ungodly woman.  The ungodly woman seemingly gets all the traction, but she has little in the way of ‘real’ social staying power.  The ungodly woman—in one of her subgroups—will take a selfie of herself in the most outrageous of places.  The godly woman—the woman who fears God—is a woman who knows her place in the broader society.  If she is single, she is an uplifter.  If she is a wife and mother, she is a world shaker and a society builder.

Examine the women who have been prominently mentioned in Black History.  They knew who God was and had a firm relationship with Jesus Christ.  These women supported their husbands and protected their children.  They did NOT ‘down them’ but were there on the front lines against REAL racism and oppression.  Many of these sisters were blessed by God to do exploits FROM their homes which became legendary and bedrock portions of our history and society.  They worked WITH their Black Men and NOT against them for the ‘gain’ of a title, power, or praise.  These sisters UNDERSTOOD that unless the Black man and the Black family rises with the lead of godly men and upright women, honors are meaningless, and destruction is swift and sure.

Let us honor the godly woman this month, whether she is from the first world, second world, or third world.  Without her, there would NOT be much of a world.  In turn, when Men’s History Month comes around, and there is an International Men’s Day, our godly women will honor then as godly men have honored her now—and every day.  Society likes to push the ‘hip hell-raising ungodly woman’.

My honor always goes with those who honor and serve God, in a very dark world.

The late Marva Collins, a teacher who saw the Chicago schools failing her children and others, with the help of her husband built a school from scratch and taught her children in a better environment of learning.  Other children came to her school, and out of the public school ‘hellholes’.  We have had her godly example buried under excuses and ‘substandard’ women in the education field.  Marva Collins was featured on 60 Minutes, wrote several books, toured various parts of the country and lectured on how to open schools like hers with a minimum of hassle.  I had the chance to watch her speak in Cincinnati, Ohio a few years back.

I’ll leave you with two of her quotes to wrap up my column.

Here’s the first one.  When asked—in her early days—when her school faced financial problems how she would keep the school open, Collins replied: “If Jesus could teach under a tree, then so can I.”  Then, there is this Firestarter for Woman’s History Month from Collins: “Don't try to fix the students, fix ourselves first. The good teacher makes the poor student good and the good student superior. When our students fail, we, as teachers, too, have failed.”

Wanna have a great Women’s History Month? Honor godly women!  Buy one of Marva’s books and read how a godly woman ‘got it done’.  Word!
