Re: Stop the Killings Movement

Greetings Mr. Jones,

This communication humbly request for your assistance to help the residents of Chicago reach the communities in an effort to stops the youth violence and senseless killings.   The Redeye reports 28 homicides in the month of November alone.  Chicago has experienced more than 300 deaths by the use of a handgun this year.  Our city has made many attempts to eradicate violence and save our youth.  We have all come together to as one voice to stop the violence and keep our streets safe.  We understand that “It Takes A Village To Raise A Child”.  Getting the message,” Stop the Killings”, to the youth has been a challenge, one which we continue to pursue.  We would like to make a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to address this demise and inform our youth that we understand their circumstance but the killings must stop.

We are aware that our youth communication is often limited to mass media.  Now is our opportunity to grasp their attention with the new release, Murder to Excellence by rappers, Kanye West and JayZ, which can ultimately encourage them to escape a state of hopeless and possibly began the process of becoming productive members of society,

Murder to Excellence’, describes the perils of growing up in disproportionate communities and how the social ills within these communities can bring mediocrity and destructive lifestyles that create dysfunctional abnormalities. The rap artists on the track highlighted their rise from a life of dereliction to fame, fortune and influence. With their profound lyrics, they attempt to revitalize those who grew up in similar communities to understand that there are other options.  Both artists, Jay Z (Brooklyn) and Kanye West (Chicago) once lived in impoverished communities and continue to contribute to such communities. The ultimate message is that anyone can transform their live and community by becoming productive individuals.

At this time, our collaboration of Pastors, Community Activist, Politician, Teachers, Students, and Parents are humbly requesting a “40 Days and 40 Nights vigil, which would include playing this song, “Murder to Excellence” three times a day for forty days consecutively.  Our efforts to reach the youth and stop the killing are parallel.  We have identified the Urban Translator/Political Consultant Wallace “Gator” Bradley to deliver the PSA.

Mr. Bradley is the childhood friend of Larry Hoover and a former Gang- Enforcer of the Gangster Disciples.  He also and ex- Felon who received a Pardon from former Illinois Gov. Jim Thompson who was also once a product of his community.  He is another testament that one can rise above their circumstances and give back to the very community that once held them hostage.

In advance we graciously appreciate your time and consideration.
