Now, with the stroke of his pen, everybody is aware that Jonathan has counter-attacked against those who oppose him.  Given the nature of Nigerian politics, the sacked ministers rather than Jonathan’s actions forcing them to the opposition, I am sure would distance themselves from the opposition.  In Nigeria, where a minister never resigns unless forced to do so, the sacked ministers are right now at the gates of Aso Rock (the presidential villa), begging to go back in.

Yesterday, September 12, the Voice of America interviewed me on what is going on in Nigeria: the turmoil in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the significance and consequences of President Goodluck Jonathan’s sacking of nine ministers.  The turmoil pitches a group within the PDP who do not want Jonathan to run as a presidential candidate in the 2015 general elections against those who are urging him to run.(Continue reading)
