PNC “Bank Day Saturday” Event Seeks to Promote “Second Chance” Banking Services to 100 Low-Income

And Unbanked Families in Chicago

PNC “Bank Day Saturday” Slated for April 30th at PNC Bank, Southside of Chicago

A campaign launched through a collaboration between community reinvestment advocacy group, The Monroe Foundation, and leading Chicago area lender, PNC Bank, to promote financial services to low-income families and individuals who have been denied banking services or are using currency exchanges for financial transactions. The collaborative program is called

 “PNC Bank Day Saturdays”.

Details of the Event:

 What: PNC “Bank Day Saturday”

When: Saturday, April 30, 2011

Where: PNC Bank, 7300 South Stony Island

Time: 8:30a.m. Registration

The program provides an opportunity for low-income individuals, to come to a PNC Branch location, take a “PNC Money Management Seminar”, earn a certificate and open a PNC “Second Chance” checking account on the same-day for only $25, and qualify for a $25 matching deposit grant from The Monroe Foundation.

Paul Labonne, VP and Community Reinvestment Officer for PNC Bank states: “Financial literacy is no longer an option in our communities. Every one should be financially informed and be given an opportunity to reenter the financial mainstream”.

Otis Chandler Monroe, III, CEO of The Monroe Foundation, and lead community partner with PNC for the program, stated, “This is what a forward thinking financial institution does when it’s committed to community investment……..provide low-income families and those who are struggling economically to become part of and stay a part of the financial services mainstream”. “Bank Day” Saturdays will take place several times during the year at various branch locations, and is clearly a path forward to helping the unbanked gain economic security and a second chance.
