The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement’s 15th Anniversary Fund Raising Event The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement NYC Chapter invites you to join us at our fund raising event: Liberation through Self-Determination and Activism, Celebrating 15 years of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement Friday, May 16, 2008 -- 6:30 pm Martin Luther King Jr. Center 43rd Street between 8th and 9th Aves Register ONLINE for our fundraiser. http://mxgm.org/15yearsof/index.php/15-years-of-mxgm The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM) cordially invites you to attend our 15th annual fundraiser gala to be held on Friday May 16, 2008 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center located at 310 West 43rd street between 8th and 9th Avenues. For 15 years the MXGM has worked tirelessly to defend the human rights of people of African descent. To date we have raised over $100,000 for political prisoners in the United States; we have organized an ongoing cop watch and know your rights program to combat the proliferation of police brutality in our communities; we work with young people on a weekly basis, through our New Afrikan Scouts program, to teach those youth about the richness of African culture and the resistance movements that shape our history. Please join us for an evening of music and performances as well as an amazing silent Art Auction featuring prominent visual artists as we celebrate our work and honor some fellow community activists that have supported the mission and goals of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. Lawyers Soffiyah Ellijah and Tariff Michael Warren along with entertainer Talib Kweli, and Councilman Charles Barron will be receiving our first Grassroots Community Award. Our keynote speaker will be Dhuruba Bin Wahad. The artists that will be offering their work include: Chidi Ozieh Hubert Neal Frank D.
