The Last Poets along with Rakim, Chuck-D, Chubb Rock,
KRS-1 and more discuss the journey of the iconic group,
hip hop culture, and more.
On Tuesday, May 19th, at 7 PM (EST), Universal Hip Hop Museum and Video Music Box in association with Seeds of The Last Poets Productions, presents “Bridging the Gap: An Evening of Conversation with the The Last Poets”, featuring dynamic footage from Rakim, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Chubb Rock, filmmaker and hip hop impresario, Michael Holman, and spoken word artist, Jessica Care Moore in conversation with the legendary spoken word group, The Last Poets, who have been coined by many as the “godfathers of rap”.
Hosted by the world famous Ralph McDaniels of Video Music Box, this live stream event marks
the 50th anniversary of the group’s groundbreaking and critically acclaimed self-titled, debut LP.
Acknowledging the importance of a strong connection between hip-hop and spoken word artists
throughout the years, this event will highlight how the poet’s influence has reached far beyond
the spoken word community and touched the masses.
“As the children of The Last Poets, we think it is important to preserve their legacy, while sharing
their journey over the past 50 years with the world. Far too often musical icons aren’t given their
full recognition while alive. We want to be able to give them their flowers while they are still
here,” says Obadele Davis, son of Abiodun of The Last Poets.
In addition to the live conversation between The Last Poets and the aforementioned hip-hop
notables, live stream attendees will also enjoy video testimonials from such performers as
KRS-One, Black Thought of The Legendary Roots Crew, Jadakiss of The Lox, Sonia Sanchez,
Rapsody, Bilal, Tek of Smif-N-Wessun, Black Ice, Mumu Fresh, Kindred the Family Soul, and so
many more. The event will be live streamed on Facebook and also highlight the relaunch of
www.thelastpoets.com the one-stop shop for ALL things about The Last Poets.
