Black Solidarity will take place Monday, November 5th., 2012. This celebration begins Sunday, November 4th with the annual pre-Black Solidarity Day rally and commemoration. It will be conducted at Boys' & Girls' High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.
This event will be highlighted by awarding three citations, beginning with Dr. Carlos Russell who initiated Black Solidarity for the first celebration in1969 There will be a special for Douglass Turner Ward who is the author/playwright of "A Day of Absence" and is the founder of the Negro Ensemble Company (NEC) in 1967. This production laid the framework for the celebration. Also there will be a special recognition of Solomon Goodrich who recently retired as Director of the Southeast Queens Park Association. Brother Goodrich also served as Chairperson of the Board for the Education of People of African Ancestry (B.E.P.A.A.), also known as Clarke House (for John Henrik Clarke).
This rally is taking place Sunday, November 4, 2012 with the theme "Our Youth, Our Future, Our Destiny," will feature speakers and cultural presentations.
Some of the speakers will be Brother A. T. Mithchell, Sister Betty Dopson, Sister's Erica Ford and Ramatu Baba, as well as outstanding leaders throughout New York City. Cultural presentations will be provided by the Bed-Stuy Capoeira Angola Rites of Passage, and the All African Community Drummers and others.
