(Gordon Parks: Black Children with White Doll) The Doll Test: Over 60 Years later Do our children believe that they are inferior to whites? If so, where does this inferiority complex or "self hate" come from and how can we address it? Over sixty after Kenneth and Mamie Clark's doll test showed the negative impact of systematic racism on the minds of Black children, a recent replication of the test found that little has changed. Join us to watch the short documentary "A Girl Like Me" and discuss the impact that this identity crisis has on our children. Session will challenge us to analyze this phenomena while discussing the school's role in perpetuating this as well as the need to create institutions that cultivate positive identity development. Parents and Volunteers looking to participate in this summer's Sankofa Saturday School Program are highly encouraged to attend!
