WHAT: New Year Music Biz Empowerment Half-Day Courses
Accessible, affordable, short courses to empower and drive your music industry plans. Small classes, where you can get answers to your questions, improve your knowledge base and confidence. Led by seasoned music industry tutor Kwaku. He holds MAs in Media and Music Business Management, and LLM in Entertainment Law. Other experienced tutors contribute, as and when required. If the music industry seems like a hazy maze to you, then this course is for you. It's aimed at a mixed group, from budding to experienced practitioners who want to have a better idea of how the various music industry elements work. It explains the various industry elements and how they interact within the music industry, plus key rights and income streams. Learn how to join the dots of the music industry!
1.30-4.30pm: Preparing A Music Business Plan Workshop (£30, £40, £50)
A business plan is not only for making loan or grant applications. Even if you have loads of money, it's important to have a business plan, because it allows one to "road test" a business idea in advance of committing resources, financial or otherwise.

10.30-1.00pm: Copyright, Contract & Publishing (£20, £25, £30)
Provides useful a very good overview of copyright, including recent updates in British copyright law, the components of a contract and key terms of music industry contracts, and what is publishing and how it works.
1.30-4.30pm: Making Sense Of Music Licensing III Workshop (£30, £40, £50)
a) Aimed at those who have some prior understanding of copyright, publishing and the music industry (or else the morning course is highly recommended).
b) There is more to the music industry than performing live or releasing records. In recent times LICENSING is where the monetisation of music and recording content is at. The Workshop covers sync licensing for films, broadcast, games, plus sampling etc. You will learn about the various licensing options and likely deals.
c) The workshop is led by Ivan Chandler, a music publisher and copyright consultant with over 30 years experience. His roles in the music field include General Manager of Paramount Pictures’ music company 1977-1980, and European Manager of Motown’s Jobete music publishing division 1980-1989. He's been running his own music consultancy Musicalities since 1995.
