On Tuesday, October 19th, in observation of the founding of the Black Panther Party and the ‘Martyrs of October,’ the Newark chapter will host its monthly meeting with a teach on ‘New World Resistance: From Columbus to Khallid,’ featuring their national minister of culture Zayid Muhammad. October tragically marks the assassinations of Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, who was captured in Bolivia and executed by CIA operatives on October 9,1967, of Maurice Bishop, the beloved leader of the New Jewel Movement in Grenada, was assassinated on October 19, 1983, of Thomas Sankara, the promising leader of the revolution in Burkino Faso, was betrayed and assassinated on October 15,1987, and the circumstantial death of Mozambiquean revolutionary leader Samora Michel who was killed in a plane crash in October 19,1986. “We can’t understand what’s behind the violence besieging our streets unless we first understand the counterinsurgency set in motion to destabilize our world wherever we have made change or made a serious push for change,” explained Muhammad.
