This SRDC gathering is held in various regions of the country and this year, for the first time, we will be in South Carolina. As most of you know, the African Diaspora was the mostly involuntary and scattered movement of Africans and their descendants, predominantly to the Americas, and is one of the largest displacements of a population in pre-modern times. It began in the middle of the 15th century, and as many as twenty million African people were transported to the Western Hemisphere and forcibly enslaved by white Europeans. Kafele, the son of nationally renown educator and writer Baruti Kafele, spent considerable time in Egypt recently, exploring that incredible ancient legacy. He will be doing a presentation detailing the moving depth and breadth of that legacy through his journey. This special presentation will take place from 6:30 to 8:30p.m. at Waset Kommuniversity, 271 So. 9th St., Newark. “This talk is not just about claiming our incredible ancestral legacy,” explained Muhammad. “It’s more about a new generation opening its eyes and claiming the legacy as the crucial beginning to us solving our problems.”

  • Description: On Saturday, July 17th, Newberry County, South Carolina will be the site for a major march and rally against hate crimes in response to the lynching of a Black veteran Anthony Hill. The march and rally is being organized by the New Black Panther Party and Black Lawyers for Justice, led by attorney Malik Zulu Shabazz. Hill was shot in the head tied up to the pack of a truck and then summarily dragged ten miles. The authorities have a suspect, Gregory Collins, in custody who is being charged with murder. Area residents and critical observers believe that Collins did not act alone and that the investigation should be treated as a ‘hate crime.’ Details of the rally are still developing, but organizers are asking people from all quarters of the country to come the aid of this terrorized community at this critical time. “Make no mistake about it, on July 17th, all roads lead to Newberry, South Carolina,” Muhammad declared emphatically.
