HARLEM TOWNHALL MEETING Analysis of City Councilwoman Inez Dickens 125th Rezoning Deal: Betrayal not Victory! Tuesday, May 6, 2008 7 to 9 PM St. Ambrose Church 9 West 130th Street Speakers: Attorney Norman Siegel, Craig Schley and Attorney Erica Rezook of Vote People, Nellie Bailey of HTC, Harlem tenant leaders Valerie Orridge (Delano Village Tenants Association) and Tenant Activist Lisa Jones: Abyssinian Development Corporation on the hot seat!! Also reps from the Fred Samuel Merchants Association, Movement for Justice in El Barrio and Invited Special Guests: Councilman Charles Barron and Councilman Tony Avella (only two Council members who voted against the 125th St. plan). City Councilwoman Inez Dickens negotiated a deal with billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg for the rezoning of Harlem's famed 125th Street corridor: 124th to 126th Street from 2nd Avenue to Broadway where Columbia University's expansion has already been approved: 125th to 133rd St from 12th Ave. to Broadway. Dickens so called victory for Harlem is nothing more than BETRAYAL! ! ! A letter dated April 15, 2008 that outlines the "Points of Agreement" from Robert C. Liber, Deputy Mayor of Economic Development to Council members Inez Dickens, Robert Jackson (West Harlem) and Melissa Mark Viverto (East Harlem) depicts a different story. Officials claimed 1,785 of 3,858 units planned for Harlem would be income targeted but out of the 3,858 units only 200 units are for incomes of $30,750 or less. Harlem's medium annual income is less than $25,000. Also the so called "affordable housing" is based on voluntary programs. None of the units are mandated so it's questionable how many of these claimed affordable units would even be built. The "agreement" has a number of pork barrrel items for Dickens' supporters in Harlem's political establishment including a $100,000 "consultant position" paid through 2012! Sponsored by the Harlem Tenants Council, 21 West 130th Street. Telephone: 646-812-5188 or email:Harlem tenants@gmail.com ANNOUNCEMENT: PICKETING THE DICKENS OUT OF INEZ **** Hey All....
