The Gokyo valley Trek is a travel adventure taking the tourists to the Gokyo Valley of Everest region which is the home of the highest hill of the world Gokyo Ri and several Himalayan r lakes collectively known as Gokyo Lakes. The Gokyo Lakes region are the one of the highest altitude wetlands and freshwater lake system designated as a Ramsar Site. There are total 19 Gokyo Lakes in the Gokyo valley and all of them are freshwater system. There is a small village named a Gokyo on the foothills of Gokyo Ri along the eastern short of Gokyo Cho Lake. It is small village that caters the tourists which normally closes at winter due to extreme cold and snow fall. The Gokyo Ri is the highest hill of 5357 meters that have the proud height to look straight at Mount Everest. The Gokyo valley Trek is a trekking in the gokyo valley traversing through delightful valleys, crystal clear blue and green lakes, world’s biggest ice glacier called ngozumpa glacier dominated by nearest mountains of Everest Himalaya range.
After a 35 minutes flight from Kathmandu landing at Lukla’s tiny airstrip, the adventure really begins. We spend the next few days trekking and interacting amongst the mountain people also known as Sherpa’s, we stay at local lodges and trek into the heartland of their villages. Everything is organized in conjunction with local Sherpa guides. Along the trek, we will pass Buddhist monasteries with the views of Everest and other snow towering mountains getting closer by the day. We will have rest days in the villages of Namche bazaar that will allow us to explore the region and acclimatize, which is very important. After trekking to Gokyo Ri (5,483 m), we return at a leisurely pace back to Namche and Lukla for our flight back to Kathmandu.
