The Frontiers International Plainfield Area Club presents their 42nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast. The Breakfast, the longest running tribute, of its kind, to Dr. King in New Jersey, will be Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Plainfield High School cafeteria and auditorium starting at 8:30 am.
Guest speaker for the Breakfast will be Imhotep Gary Byrd who is the award-winning host, creator, and executive producer of The GBE, the longest running Black radio broadcast in the history of New York City. His career as a multi-media radio personality, spoken word-recording artist, songwriter, and motivational speaker has always focused on “raising human consciousness thru communications.” In a career that spans 50 years, Byrd, as a modern day griot, is dedicated to “telling our story and lifting every voice.”
The Breakfast, an annual commemoration of the life of Dr. King, highlights student groups, awards scholarships, and recognizes those in the community who have made outstanding contributions.
Each year Frontiers issues such awards as the Westry Horne “Excellence in Education” award for their contribution to the Plainfield School System, the Community Service Award and the Service to Youth Award. Westry Horne, one of the founders of the Frontiers International Plainfield Area Club, was an avid tennis player and master educator. The auditorium at Plainfield High School bears his name.
The Breakfast will be a truly special event where the entire community can enjoy a delicious breakfast with entertainment, honor Plainfield’s finest and pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
