Slavery By Another Name: Reveals a dirty secret, after slavery was declared unconstitutional the South used forced Black labor to re-build!
The Thirteenth Amendment, in 1863, abolished slavery, however a caveat within it "except as a punishment for crime" allowed Slavers to continue slavery by another name "Convict Leasing". Blacks were unjustly convicted of crimes, "The Black Codes" no matter how insignificant — were forced to work on Chain Gangs. Prior to 1863, the passage of Thirteenth Amendment, in 1850 a new law, The Fugitive Slave Law was enacted to spread and continue slavery not just in the North but to future generations.
