“There is a tragic irony to the fact that currently 180 years after the Slavery Abolition Act prohibited slavery in the British Empire, 150 years after the Emancipation Proclamation prohibited slavery in the U.S., and 125 years after the Golden Law prohibited slavery in Brazil, black enslavement continues in several especially pernicious forms throughout the transatlantic region.”

On November 23-26, 2013 the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature will convene their annual conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The American Academy of Religion (AAR) brings over 9,000 professors and students, authors and publishers, religious leaders and interested laypersons to its Annual Meeting each year. Co-hosted with the Society of Biblical Literature, the Annual Meetings are the largest events of the year in the fields of religious studies and theology.
Kinetics cordially invites you to a special reception featuring Rev. Dr. Allan Boesak, anti-apartheid activist and The Desmond Tutu Chair of Peace, Global Justice, and Reconciliation Studies at Butler University and Christian Theological Seminary.
Emancipation 150: Religion, Race and Justice will examine the state of the Black community 150 years post emancipation proclamation; the public theological role of the Black church in critiquing the body politic of the nation and the theological response to issues such as Trayvon Martin, Mass-Incarceration, Poverty, Human trafficking, Death Penalty and Gun Violence.
