The 23rd Annual Vivian Black History Parade and Festival celebrates the history of African Americans with a full day of events. The parade will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 16 at North Caddo Elementary Middle School located at 100 West Kentucky Avenue in Vivian and continue down Highway 1 South.

“The Black History Parade and Festival Committee worked very hard to make this a spectacular, family-friendly event. We hope that people will leave Vivian with a true feeling of hometown hospitality and return next year to celebrate black history with us,” said Ann Lars, member of the Vivian Black History Parade Organization.

New to this year’s Vivian Black History Parade and Festival’s schedule of events are a car show and the 1st Annual Black Heritage Rodeo and Concert. Post-parade festivities will continue with the car show at 1 p.m. at The Vivian Park located at 522 East Tennessee Avenue. The car show will feature food, art and crafts vendors, music, an array of detailed cars, and more festival fun.

The 1st Annual Black Heritage Rodeo will begin at 2 p.m. at Dr. Seals S. Speer Memorial Arena located at 455 North Rivers Street in Vivian. Rodeo competitions include calf roping, junior breakaway, kids’ calf scramble, barrel racing, and team roping. Admission is $1 for children and $5 for adults.

Following the rodeo is the 1st Annual Black Heritage Concert hosted by Shreveport’s radio personality, Jabber Jaws. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at Louisiana Army National Guard located at 625 Park Drive in Vivian with performances by Jeter Jones, Ghetto Cowboy, Crystal Thomas, and DJ Topp Dogg. Pre-sale tickets are $20. Tickets sold at the door are $25. Tickets are $30 for reserved table seating. For pre-sale tickets, contact Catina Williams at 318-230-3589.
