We are extremely grateful for your support for the advancement of WADU and the overall Pan African Movement, for the reunification and reintegration of the African Diaspora with Africa. Indeed, the success of WADU in 2010 is only due to your consistent and continuous support for an empowered Africa and we expect greater success in 2011. Unfortunately, our achievements as African people in 2010 are clouded by the ongoing crises in Haiti, the Congo, Columbia, the Sudan and now Ivory Coast. Africans, now more than ever need each other, and your leadership, your support and prayers are important as we march with pride on to victory.
The year 2010 started in consultation with eldest leader of the Pan African Movement – our President His Excellent Baba Dudley Thompson in our annual WADU Executive Council Session in Florida. During the meeting, we were able to define the most effective ways for the African Diaspora to engage the African Union for Diaspora representation, to support Haiti, to launch a Pan African economic plan and to establish cultural institutions for the renewal of our people. The WADU leadership decided to prioritize the WADU 2010 Summit to directly pressure African leaders in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on key Diaspora issues. Also, at the WADU annual Executive meeting, Reverend Dr. Ndugu T’Ofori-Atta was elected Chair of the WADU High Council of Elders.
In February 2010, as part of WADU preparation for Ethiopia, Dr. Atta invited Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright, members of the Concerned Black Clergy of Atlanta and other leaders in a forum in Atlanta, Ga. to support to the WADU Pan African mission to Ethiopia. Also, in June 2010, WADU initiated the first public Pan African Diaspora pre-Summit forum at the African
Union office in Washington, D.C., hosting key representatives from both the Africa advocacy and Pan African organizations to support the WADU African Diaspora Declaration (ADD). In July 2010, WADU convened its historic 2010 Summit in Ethiopia to press the AU for African Diaspora re-integration with Africa. The highlight of the WADU Summit is the message by the Abuna (Pope) of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church supporting Diaspora issues.
Towards the ending of 2010, the African Union convened an African Diaspora leadership meeting in New York to expedite the African Diaspora representation in the AU. This meeting coincided with the annual WADU 5th PAC forums in October promoting investment
opportunities and AU Diaspora representation. The year ended with what Dr.Leonard Jeffries called a “triumphant” cultural festival in Senegal, whereby hundreds of African people from across the world were invited by President Wade to participate in the AU/Senegal Black Festival. WADU leaders played a leading role in its success.
As we close 2010, WADU would like to congratulate President Abdoulaye Wade for his bold and exemplary actions on the crisis in Haiti and his attempt to work with significant members of the African Diaspora. We are especially thankful for the lasting legacy of WADU ancestral leaders such as Baba Ptah (Ga), Mama Marilyn Killingsworth (WDC), Mama Njeri Alghanee (Ga), Baba Kwame Afoh (Fla) and Baba Masai (NY). The WADU Executive Council would like all to congratulate Baba Ifaniyi for his successful appointment as the Chief Elder of North Carolina by the Executive Council. WADU is seeking similar recommendations from those “ready” for leadership and service across the Diaspora during the year 2011.
Looking forward into 2011, WADU is focusing on the following: 1. All Africans to participate in the WADU Decade for Development agenda promoting Pan African Economics, a Pan African education system and a Diaspora AU Council (organize by African Diaspora leaders. 2. Continue working and partnering with other key Pan African and Africa advocacy organizations to strengthen the successful legacy of the Pan African Movement (8th PAC) and; 3. Continue pressing the AU to have a clear and credible consultation with established leaders of the Diaspora Pan African and Civil Rights organizations, to fully support peace and
empowerment of Black people and our Homeland, Africa.
As relentless Pan Africanists, we resolve in 2011 to embrace the timeless words of the Abuna Paulos, representing the most powerful of the ancient African Kushite Nile Valley civilizations, impressing on us “to sacrifice more…” for our people in Haiti, the Congo, the Sudan, for Africa... and most of all our children in 2011, the United Nations year for the people of African descent.
