During the World African Diaspora Union (WADU) annual Executive Session and community forum in Florida on January 22, 2011, His Excellency Dudley Thompson reaffirmed WADU position on the Ivory Coast that “military intervention is not an option...” but for the African Union to “use the power of peace and reconciliation to further the Pan African renaissance for the integration and empowerment of African people. The President recounted that Africa’s glorious history and civilizations were disrupted by foreign influence, military interventions and genocidal warfare against the people of Africa.

Thanking President Abdoulye Wade and some other key leaders in Africa for their Pan African vision to carry the Pan African mantle of those like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Marcus Garvey forward, Dr. Leonard Kweku Jeffries, Vice President of WADU stressed that the “African Renaissance Monument is the most powerful modern image signaling to and calling for the African Diaspora to return home in service of our Ancestral Homeland, Africa. He highlighted the inspiring and warm welcome ceremonies and the great participation of Africans from Brazil, the USA, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. Dr. Kweku Jeffries pointed that never before has the African Diaspora played such significant role in an important African continental event and that WADU played a key role its success.

Dr. Rosalind Jeffries who also participated in the Senegal conference along with other WADU leaders added that the Renaissance Monument is an African Kemitic (Egyptian) expression symbolizing “Africa’s return to its glorious heritage and civilizations with the ancient representation of the African father, mother and child, standing with power and in unity, for the resurrection of Africans and humanity.

Other issues discussed as part of the WADU Decade for Development agenda were: Reparations as part of the UN declaring 2011 as the Year for those of African Descent; Pan African economic investment opportunities; African Diaspora integration as citizens of Africa; and WADU push for an 8th Pan African Congress by 2014. Finally, Dr. Kwadjo Vassal accepted the responsibility as the Co-Chair of WADU Florida. Other members of Pan African family in Florida gave their commitment to work with WADU for the realization of the Pan African mission in the spirit of Baba Kwame Afoh, who is now an ancestor.
