THE DAY OF RECKONING
Coalition of Reparation Enforcers Plan to Present
$900 Million Bill to Norfolk Southern Rail Road

CHICAGO, Illinois – September 18, 2014
Reparation activists in Chicago, calling themselves Reparations Enforcers,

are calling September 23rd the “Day of Reckoning.” On that day, they will assemble at the corner of 46th Pl and Wentworth Ave at 3:00 pm, to begin their walk down to
the entrance of the Norfolk Southern (NS) rail yard. Group organizers declare they
are assembling to present them with a bill of payment for past “crimes against
Afrikan humanity.”

Utilizing the international document, the Durban Declaration and Program of Action, the outcome document of the 2001 World Conference Against Racism, this group declares that Norfolk Southern Rail Road has committed international crimes against people of Afrikan descent in America. “Crimes against humanity have no statute of limitations. If an entity is still in existence that committed those crimes of slavery and apartheid then, they are still guilty today and they have an obligation to the victims today,” says the organizers.

According to the organizers, the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N’COBRA,) and the Coalition for the Enforcement of Repair and Restoration (CERR), the Durban Declaration affirms that the injury to Afrikan humanity is still in effect among the living descendants of those who experienced the period of enslavement and Jim Crow segregation - (violent racial separation, i.e., apartheid). They hold that it is their responsibility to enforce the Declaration and that they can do so by engaging the historical Black struggle model of non-violent direct action. In this case, they plan a one month long campaign to secure reparations.

When asked where the money would be targeted, the group stated that they have convened several meetings with anti-violence groups to create a comprehensive anti-violence, city-wide, multi-year plan. This plan would address economic conditions, family conditions and community shortcomings that contribute to violence. In addition, and more importantly, they assert, it will address the damaged humanity that being Black in America has produced. All of this will be addressed under the initiative, OUR Children, OUR Solutions.

“NS”, says the organizers, ”presented a confession,” when it submitted a Slavery Disclosure Report to the City of Chicago last year in order to get the city lawmakers to approve a land sale to the company in order for it to initiate it’s $285 Million Rail Yard expansion.

In addition to the 33 years of criminal injury detailed in the report, the organizers assert that for an additional 70 to 80 years after enslavement, Norfolk Southern continued its brutalization and theft of labor to hundreds of thousands of more Blacks via the apartheid system of peonage.
~
When asked where the $900,000,000 price tag came from, they asserted that 100 years of forced, double-shift labor of hundreds of thousands of Afrikans entitles them to at least the equivalent of 10% of the current value of the corporation. According to its website, currently, the corporation has $9 Billion in assets. (Afrikans worked 12 hour days during enslavement and 14 hour days during the peonage system – convict leasing).

“The Day of Reckoning,” refers to a phrase written by Jourdan, in response to a letter written by an enslaver asking him, his wife and two daughters to come back to the plantation after the end of the civil war. Making the request for back wages (32 years’ worth for himself and 20 years’ worth for his wife) plus interest, but certain that enslaver would not comply, he wrote, “Surely there will be a day of reckoning for those who defraud the laborer of his hire.” “That day begins September 23rd.”
