Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has appointed Carlton Masters as Jamaica’s first-ever representative to the African Union.

Masters’ appointment also includes the post of Special Envoy of the Prime Minister, and assumes the rank of Ambassador.

The Office of the Prime Minister said his role would be to “seek to strengthen Jamaica’s relations and partnerships with a range of African countries and organisations and deepen our dialogue on issues of strategic importance.”

He will also work to promote dialogue and explore avenues for trade, investment and cooperation with African partners, the Office of the Prime Minister said.

Masters’ appointment took effect in February, presenting his credentials to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Diamini-Zuma in March.

Jamaica’s move follows Haiti’s accession to the African Union as an observer country.

Marcus Garvey asked.  AU is the answer to the long awaited response to the only African leader who took on the whole Europe and America and was able to organize UNIA for the improvement of Africans. But for the house Negroes who betrayed him when he established the Black Star Line to take Africans back to where they were uprooted and decultured by the EUROPEANS.  AFRICA..
