Happy Birthday, Malcolm X!
I am delighted to be acknowledged on the anniversary of my birth.
And, I am often puzzled by happy birthday "wishes"? to someone who is dead.
Is the dead ever happy on their birthday?
What's going on here?

I am thankful that Malcolm X lives, and, I am committed to be the expression and the fulfillment of his highest ideals. ~KA

as a teenager during the time of malcolm x there were many things I had no real understanding of, because of malcolm I became aware of the need for awareness to be understood by all, black, white, red, yellow, whatever type of man exist that it is a New Day in the life of the black men. in my world I observed a pawn turning into a bishop which was sacrificed to create inspiration in thoses that still desired real freedom to never forget why. Malcolm is truely my inspiration to encourage others that the prize of real freedom is still within reach so long as the desire for the flame of freedom stay flaming with its bright light. we will never give up! Believe me when I say: " Your name will go farther than you ever will!"
I wrote a lengthy answer and posted it on Facebook. Your reply was somewhat ... hurtful...so I deleted it. I am in my 60's and I was in attendance at several speeches of Minister Shabazz...I have nothing but admiration, deep pride and a dedication to live by the precepts that I absorbed from him as a teenager. I was OUTRAGED at his assasination..........I STILL AM... I do not celebrate dates of birth for anyone. I do not spend $$$$ because a ridiculous system/mindset has programmed that this is the thing to do...................... SANKOFA.............
The question is not person to you or even Malcolm X, his birthday etc.
The question is: Why wish a dead person, any dead person, Happy Birthday?
I do not celebrate dates of birth for anyone. ..............................NEVER (alive or ascended)

Interesting point of view. I never thought I was celebrating the man's birthday, but his legacy. However, I attended a celebration of his legacy today and questioned several in attendance about Malcolm and how his legacy affected their lives, thinking and behavior. I was saddened by the lack of awareness and consciousness of those respondents.
Many knew nothing about the man. They had come out because it was an 'event' they were invited to. Others knew only what they saw on TV and had never done any personal research.
Must we allow two generations to waste away and concentrate on our little ones? Or is there a way to begin a grassroots effort to build a nation of people on the brink of destruction? Peace.
Thanks for daring to respond.
It is my opinion that celebrating his legacy is unimportant. It is me fulfilling his legacy that matters. I dishonor him by merely worshipping him.
Maybe, too, one does not need know of the deeds and history of our ancestors in order to extend their legacy - you and know more than Nat Turner did and yet we are in action as he did - Carlos Cooks noted that circumstances is the great creator of heroes.
I could not agree with you more. We need to establish our own legacy in light of the circumstances facing our nation. Appreciated the feed-back. Peace.
His chosen name was/is EL HAJJ MALIK al SHABAZZ.....................
Is this your answer to the question?
