Government acquires lands of Marcus Garvey's home


Cabinet has approved contracts for the acquisition of the house and the land of national hero the Right Excellence Marcus Mosiah Garvey.
Garveys birthplace is located at 32 Marcus Garvey Way in St
Anns Bay, St Ann.
The minister with responsibility for information, Daryl Vaz,
says the property is to be renovated and designated a national heritage site.
Marcus Garvey was born on August 17, 1887 and died on June 10, 1940.
He was instrumental in the development of Pan African philosophy among
Jamaicans and promoting a message of self confidence and self reliance.
