* Afrocentricity International Comdamne L’inauguration D’une Stele Celebrant L’arrivée Des Premiers Colons Francais En Guadeloupe

Afrocentricity International was appalled to learn that a group of békés, that is, descendants of the French colonists who illegally and forcibly occupied Guadeloupe, an Eastern Caribbean country, and enslaved thousands and thousands of Africans after slaughtering countless Native Americans, intend to inaugurate a monument to commemorate the arrival of the first French colonists in Guadeloupe. The said inauguration is scheduled for January 31, 2015, at 2:30 pm.

In order to fully appreciate the scope and nature of the insult that such an inauguration represents, let us revisit history for a brief moment. When the Spanish arrived in Guadeloupe in the 16th century, the country was inhabited by 20,000 to 25,000 Karibs. By 1697, only 47 of them were still around. The rest had been decimated, either through massacres or diseases introduced by the French, who had taken over from the Spanish in 1635. While the Karibs were being exterminated, the French were introducing larger and larger numbers of Africans, to work on sugar cane plantations. Hundreds of thousands of Africans landed in Guadeloupe, where a life of total misery was awaiting them. As a matter of fact, it was pure hell. We were forced work from sun up to sun dawn, under the sun or in the rain, sweating and bleeding for the 7 to 8 years that we could expect to live, sharing a dirty shack with a dozen other unfortunate Africans, fed insufficient and poor food, subjected to constant physical and verbal abuses and tortures without a name and an end. We can only get an idea of the extent of our suffering by considering our extremely high mortality rate. It is said that in the so-called French Antilles, over half of the enslaved Africans died within the first 3 years of their life there. The main reason for such a high rate were the mistreatments to which we were subjected. Since we were not considered human beings but simply objects, our “owners” could treat us any way they deemed appropriate. Their preference was to exhaust us to death and then replace us with new arrivals. Thus, the land of Guadeloupe is imbibed with the blood and sweat of our Ancestors who were kidnapped and forcibly removed from Africa to work for nothing for more than 200 years on land stolen from the Karibs by people whose bottom line was and still is money, and who are determined on imposing their amoral will on the rest of the world. The descendants of the French colonists still hold most of the land, and still enjoy considerable wealth amassed on black backs in Guadeloupe. Today, as if this were not enough, instead of talking about the Reparations that they owe us, these people are adamant about honoring their ancestors, those very white men and women who enslaved, abused, and exploited our Ancestors.

Let it be said, firmly and clearly, that Afrocentricity International will not stand idle and tolerate such disrespect. The enslavement of African people was recognized, at the WCAR Conference in Durban, South Africa, in September 2001, as a crime against humanity. No less than 168 countries signed that resolution. Therefore, any celebration of those individuals involved in the enslavement of African people –and who are, therefore, criminals, is no less and no more than a celebration of criminality and an inadmissible act of provocation. Afrocentricity International urges all of its divisions to take action to denounce this new act of white barbarity. But more specifically, Afrocentricity International vows to support and urge its AI Guadeloupe division to lead and/or participate with other organizations in exposing and resisting by all means necessary this act of profound disrespect of our Ancestors, that is, in the end, of ourselves. Enough is enough.

* Afrocentricity International a été choquée d’apprendre qu’un groupe de békés, i.e., des descendants des colons francais qui depuis 1635 occupent illégalement et par la force la Guadeloupe, et ont réduit en esclavage des milliers et des milliers d’Africains après avoir massacré un grand nombre de Karibs, a l’intention d’inaugurer une stèle commémorant l’arrivée des premiers colons français en Guadeloupe. La dite inauguration est prévue pour le 31 Janvier 2015, à 14h30.

Afin d’apprécier pleinement la nature et l’étendue de l’insulte qu’une telle inauguration représente, passons en revue brièvement l’histoire. Lorsque les Espagnols arrivèrent en Guadeloupe au 16ème siècle, y vivaient entre 20.000 et 25.000 Karibs. En 1697, il n’en restait plus que 47. Le reste avait été décimé, soit au cours de massacres, soit par des maladies introduites pas les Français, qui avaient réussi à prendre le pays aux Espagnols. Pendant qu’ils exterminaient les Karibs, les Français introduisaient un nombre de plus en plus important d’Africains qui devaient travailler sur des plantations de canne à sucre. Des centaines de milliers d’Africains furent ainsi introduits en Guadeloupe, où une vie de misère totale les attendait. En fait, c’était l’enfer sur terre. Nous étions forcés à travailler du matin jusqu’au soir, sous le soleil ou la pluie, suant et saignant pendant les 7 ou 8 ans que nous pouvions espérer vivre, partageant un taudis infect avec une douzaine d’autres Africains, recevant une nouvriture insuffisante en quantité comme en qualité pour soutenir nos forces chancelantes, soumis à des abus physiques et verbaux constants, et à des tortures sans nom ni fin. Nous pouvons simplement imaginer l’étendue de nos souffrances lorsque nous considérons le taux de mortalité extrêmement élevé des Africains asservis dans les Antilles dites francaises, puisque plus de la moitié des Africains qui y étaient introduits mouraient pendant les trois premières années. La principale raison expliquant ce fort taux de mortalité était les mauvais traitements que nous subissions. Dans la mesure où nous n’étions pas considérés comme des êtres humains mais comme des “meubles,” c’est-à-dire des choses, nos “propriétaires” pouvaient nous traiter comme ils le souhaitaient. Ils préféraient nous faire travailler à mort puis nous remplacer par de nouveaux-venus. La terre de Guadeloupe est donc imbibée du sang et de la sueur de nos Ancêtres qui furent kidnappés et enlevés de force d’Afrique pour travailler pour rien pendant plus de 200 ans sur des terres volées aux Karibs par des gens dont l’ultime préoccupation est de gagner de l’argent par n’importe quel moyen, et qui sont déterminés à imposer leur volonté et amoralité au reste du monde. Les descendants des colons français en Guadeloupe continuent à monopoliser la plus grande

partie des terres et continuent à jouir de la considérable richesse accuumulée grâce à notre labeur non-rémunuéré. Aujourd’hui, et comme si cela ne suffisait pas, au lieu de parler des Réparations qu’ils nous doivent, ne voilà-t-il pas que ces gens-là projettent d’honorer leurs ancêtres, ces mêmes blancs et blanches qui ont asservi, exploité et maltraitré nos Ancêtres.

Qu’il soit dit sans aucune ambigüité, mais fermement et clairement, qu’Afrocentricity International ne restera pas passive et ne tolèrera pas ce manque de respect. L’asservissement du peuple Africain par les Européens a été reconnu comme Crime contre l’Humanité, à la Conférence WCAR des Nations Unies qui s’est tenue à Durban, en Afrique du Sud en Septembre 2001. Pas moins de 168 pays ont signé cette résolution. Par conséquent, toute célébration d’individus impliqués dans l’asservissement des Africains –et qui sont donc des criminels, n’est plus ni moins qu’une apologie de la criminalité, et un acte de provocation simplement inadmissible. Afrocentricity International encourage toutes ses divisions à dénoncer ce nouvel acte de barbarie blanche. Mais plus spécifiquement, Afrocentricity International s’engage à soutenir et à encourager sa division AI Guadeloupe alors qu’elle mène des actions ou collabore avec d’autres organisations afin de résister par tous les moyens nécessaires à cet acte insultant pour nos Ancêtres, c’est-à-dire pour nous-mêmes en dernière instance. Trop c’est trop.
