P.O.P. CONTINUES WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH TALKS!
HOSTS LABOR LEADER MILLY SILVA!

On Thursday, March 19th, the People’s Organization for Progress will host labor leader
Milly Silva as they continue their observation of Women’s History Month.
This engaging presentation will place at 6:30pm at the organization’s weekly general assembly meeting, at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark.
The program’s theme will be ‘Women, The Labor Movement, The Need For Unity Between The Peoples’ Struggles.’
Silva is the executive vice president of Labor Union 1199, ensuring that over 7000 New Jersey health care workers are getting a living wage and fair work conditions.
Silva has an incredible story. She has been a committed public activist for over 20 years. Hailing from the Bronx, she is the first in her working class Puerto Rican family to receive a college education.           An outspoken, well-known progressive, she made history in her own right when she was picked to be Barbara Buono’s running mate in the 2013 NJ gubernatorial election. She was the first Latina to receive that serious consideration. It was the first all-female ticket assembled for a serious bid for the Governor’s office.
“Milly Silva is a highly respected progressive voice who can be key in bringing several sectors of struggle together, women, labor, people of color, young people and more, and she is still quite young herself,” said Lawrence Hamm, the organization’s founding chairman.
“We are pleased to have her with us,” he finished…

The Million People’s March For Justice, the national march against police brutality slated for July 25th in Newark, will also be an agenda item at the general assembly meeting.
P.O.P.’s General Assembly meets every Thursday evening at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark.
