Honoring His Contributions to the American Way of Life

 

Dr.DaisetzTeitaro Suzuki will be honored for his cosmopolitan Buddhist philosophy and his intercultural role of introducing Japanese Cultures to the West, a true pioneer that inflluence the direction of modern American culture today.

A number of prominent experts will give lecture presentations and demonstrations of D.T. Suzuki's influence on Western culture. This will include various demonstrations of Japanese culture, such as traditional Japanese tea ceremony, Japanese dance and music both classical and contemporary,Taiko drumming, and a live Kendo and Iaido demonstration.

This will be the first in MoMA’s history to have such an event. It will also be a  truly historical event for the Japanese Americans, the Japanese in America, the Zen and Shin Buddhist communities, and the New York Cultural Community as a whole.

Our host will be The American Buddhist Study Center, Inc. (ABSC), formerly known as the American Buddhist Academy, was founded in 1951 by the late Reverend Hozen Seki, founder of the NY Buddhist Church. The ABSC was created to provide an educational resource for people interested in learning more about Buddhism and Japanese Culture. www.ambuddhist.org
