  • The Healing Effect of a Drumming Circle

At In Light Yoga and Health, we seek to offer various healing modalities for the purpose of affecting and effecting the healing of the whole person.  Drumming circles offer deep healing in many areas.

    1. Drumming allows you to release endorphins, enkephalins and Alpha waves in the brain, which are associated with general feelings of well-being and euphoria.   Deep relaxation occurs.

    2. It helps to control chronic pain by acting as a distraction.   It promotes the production of endorphins and endogenous opiates, which are the body’s own morphine-like painkillers.

    3. Studies show that drumming circles boost the immune system.  Group drumming actually increases natural T-cells, which help the body combat cancer as well as other viruses, including AIDS.

    4. Drumming circles create a sense of connection.   They provide an opportunity to deeply connect with your spiritual self while forging friendships and sharing positive energy and high vibrations with others of like mind.

    5.  Drumming circles  connects us to Africa, the birthplace of all humankind. Just hearing the sound of African drums sparks ancestral memories.  We recall, perhaps, the sound of the sacred Djembe drum which dates back to 500 A.D. It was used in healing ceremonies, rites of passage, ancestral worship, warrior rituals and social dances.

    6. Drumming circles allow us to release negative feelings and energy blockages.

    7. Drumming circles allow us to live in the present moment, focusing our awareness on the flow of the rhythm of life.

    8.  Personal transformation can be achieved through the drumming circle as you create sound and communicate with other drummers through the sound of the drum.

    9.  Drumming circles can allow us to expand our consciousness as we take in the sacred, percussive sound vibrations.

    Come and experience.
