POP GOES BACK TO ORANGE BD OF ED
FOR TERMINATED TEACHER!

On Tuesday, June 9th, the People’s Organization of Progress (POP) will speak in support of recently terminated Orange elementary school teacher Marilyn Zuniga at the Orange Board of Education meeting.
The meeting takes place at Orange Preparatory School, located at 400 Central Avenue at 7:30pm.
Zuniga was terminated just weeks ago by the Board in response to pressure from the Fraternal Order of Police for having sent ‘Get Well’ cards by her students to a now dangerously ill Mumia Abu Jamal.
She was first suspended with pay by the Orange Board of Education for the “unauthorized” gesture.
She received an enormous outpouring of support from parents, educators locally and nationally and has even garnered international attention as a consequence of the controversy.           Mumia Abu Jamal, despite his vilification in America media, continues to be the most well-known political prisoner in the world, and is still gravely ill. He is serving a life sentence for the 1981 killing of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. Serious legal observers say Abu-Jamal was framed because of his background with the Black Panther Party and his critical reporting of police brutality in Philadelphia.
“The struggle for justice for Marilyn Zuniga is by no means over,” said the indefatigable Lawrence Hamm, the founding chairman for the People’s Organization for Progress.
POP is asking organizations and individuals to write the Orange Board of Education, to condemn the Zuniga termination and to demand her reinstatement.
Those letters should go to the president of the Orange Board of Education Patricia A. Arthur c/o School Board Secretary, Orange Public Schools, 45l Lincoln Avenue, Orange NJ 07050.
POP is also asking supporters to raise the issue at upcoming Orange City Council meetings and Essex County Freeholders meetings…

The People’s Organization for Progress is hosting a Million People’s March Against Police Brutality on July 25thin Newark. ‘Join’ its Facebook page. Its plans are a part of their weekly general assembly meetings every Thursday evening at Abyssinian Baptist Church…
