Lawsuit Cash Advance Firm says that the city's recent agreement to pay $1.25MM to the inmate's family is just another to add to a long list of recent prison injury settlements nationwide.

126845Legal-Bay LLC, The Lawsuit Settlement Funding Company, reports that NYC has agreed to pay $1.25 million to the family of a Rikers Island inmate who died after being brutally beaten by guards. The inmate, Angel Ramirez, died of "blunt impact injuries," according to The NY Daily News, after he was beaten to death by a "special response team of guards," also known as "turtles." Although the medical examiner ruled the inmate's death a homicide, no criminal charges have been brought against any of the officers by the Bronx district attorney's office. Some of the officers denied using any force against Ramirez, and one told investigators that he only punched the inmate once in the upper chest. However, eyewitnesses tell another story, one in which Ramirez was beaten with sticks, stomped on, and repeatedly hit, while he was yelling "No mas!" during the beating. The city agreed to pay $1.25 million to the family of Ramirez over his unfortunate death.

Due to the vicious nature of these crimes and the growing public awareness on these cases, Legal-Bay stands ready to assist those who have been faced with police brutality, jail injury, medical malpractice or healthcare neglect, prison rape, prison injury, wrongful death, or wrongful imprisonment and wrongful convictions, as these cases are unfortunately becoming far too common now throughout the country.

Chris Janish, CEO of Legal-Bay, commented on the recent prison injury settlement, "Unfortunately we are receiving more and more applications from victims of prison health neglect, malpractice, and police and/or prison brutality cases from inmates, as settlements are becoming more common. We believe that the recent federal intervention in Rikers is a step in the right direction, but many critics are calling for the outright shutdown of the controversial facility."
