THE NAVC CONDEMNS PROPOSED TUITION HIKES
FOR ECC STUDENTS!

The Newark AntiViolence Coalition stands firmly with our students and community in opposition to proposed tuition hikes for Essex County College students!
We stand with our students who will rally around the issue today at the Essex County Board of Trustees meeting today!
While the NAVC is best known for our bold stance against the gun violence stalking our community like a vampire, we are equally opposed to the economic violence that contributes to the actual physical violence.
Quite frankly, at a time like this, we see these proposed hikes as economic violence!
It simply sends the wrong message to our students who have it difficult enough already trying to get in school and stay in school as a refuge from the violence. Let us all also be clear, that any real transformation of our community has to also come from the students in the long run, as they mature and evolve into our community’s next line of leadership. Making it harder for them to get here and to stay here is backwards to say the least!
We think that the county needs be looking at more creative community investment strategies that can both generate revenue and involve the community as the way to go.
The NAVC will be in full solidarity with Essex County students and Newark high school students at the Board of Trustees meeting today.
The Essex County Board of Trustees meeting will take place at 9:30am at Siegler Hall at Essex County College.
