(NHS) announced today it invited homeowners from throughout the Queens area to meet with housing specialists to explore loan modification solutions that can help borrowers avoid foreclosure and preserve homeownership. The event is being held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET at the office of Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Northern Queens.

The event will bring together borrowers, experienced NHS-certified housing counselors and Ocwen Financial Corporation (Ocwen) Home Retention Agents to provide mortgage-stressed homeowners with loss mitigation and other foreclosure intervention solutions. It is part of a series of mortgage help forums hosted by NHS in collaboration with mortgage servicers throughout the first quarter of 2015.

"Our mission is to revitalize underserved neighborhoods by creating and preserving affordable housing and providing opportunities for homeownership education, financial assistance and community leadership. But to be effective, we must work in partnership with government and business, and that includes mortgage servicers," said Bernell Grier, CEO of NHSNYC.

Ocwen services about 47,000 active loans in the New York City metropolitan area. Of those loans, Ocwen has completed more than 8,800 modifications since 2012. Nationwide, Ocwen has completed more than 500,000 loan modifications.

NHS has six offices throughout the New York area located in: East Flatbush, Bedford Stuyvesant, Manhattan(NHSNYC NeighborWorks Homeownership Center)., Northern Queens, the North Bronx and the South Bronxas well as satellite offices in Canarsie,  Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach and District Council 37 Union in Manhattan.  NHS has assisted over 94,700 homeowners in averting foreclosure.  In addition, NHS is a certified Community Development Financial Institution and one of the first chartered-members of NeighborWorks™ America (NW), a national network of more than 235 affordable housing and community development organizations in all 50 states.
